I set eighteen eggs in my incubator about seventeen days ago. Six successful hatches so far. Hoping for more!
I raise the quail for eggs. Their eggs are small ( about 1/3 to a 1/4 the size of a chicken egg) but they are prolific layers. With the way things are going right now, I’m giving away/ selling eggs from my chickens just as fast as my hens can lay them, so my family is mostly living off quail eggs right now!Such sweet little birds! What are you going to do with them?
They say it takes 4-6 quail eggs to make something with one chicken egg. To me, they taste like chicken eggs, but with a larger yolk. A very Faint farmyard taste to them, but I've never really noticed or disliked it. Most people wouldn't notice the difference between chicken and quail eggs. How many quail eggs to make one breakfast? What do they taste like?
Wow! Four years for a quail is great! I don’t think their eggs taste much different than chicken eggs but they do have a higher yolk to white ratio so they almost have a slightly more creamy texture if that makes sense? They say it takes 4-6 quail eggs to make something with one chicken egg. I miss having quail! My last pair passed due to too much nutrients in the layer feed (Suggested by a farm specialty shop to boot) and they both had seizures and died. My three quail before them lasted 4 years!
I had them on some really really expensive egg food for finches that also had insects and berries in it. It was almost $65 CDN for a 1 kg container... (This was about 20 yrs ago) But the birds loved it!Wow! Four years for a quail is great!
