Hi people! Have any of you tried the aviator harness?? I am in two minds with clipping his wings or allowing him to some freedom with the harness.

How did you find it, how did your little winged friend react to it. And generally, what is your feeling about using a harness??

Thanks!

It can take quite long time for the bird to accept puting it on. I hope that next spring I will be able to use it. Just now my bird is wing clipped

You have to really ensure your bird is calm, and not forced into putting it on. Damien did not like it one bit. If your bird is untamed like my Damien is, harness's can be scary, and cause a lot of fear. If the bird is calm, tame and willing it's a good idea. :)

Thanks guys! I think I will definatley try it. Rusty is very tame, I am sure he won't mind it. Maybe I will train him with the harness until his flight feathers grow back - he had his first clipping this weekend. And, I must say, he handled it very well!!!

With the aviator harness the bird needs to be able to have his eyes covered for a second or two... I have been doing that with Max - just putting my whole hand over his head, and then go peek-a-boo...

I have also successfully put the harness on him... He didn't like it being tightened.. I haven't had him wear it, yet, for any length of time..

When my IRN is growing up, I clipped his wings .. so it's easier for me to train them and create a trust bond .. as it grows and get use to surrounding environment, only I put on harness to bring them out for evening walk .. ^^
