Aviator harness experiance

I final had success (sort of) getting my aviator harness onto my YNA “Bingo”.

I have been working at getting it on him for 3 or 4 weeks but I could not get the loop that goes over his head on.
Once I got that done he rolled over onto his back and grabbed the buckle in his foot. There was plenty of slack on his left side to loop it over his left wing.
Moving the slack over to the other side to loop it over his right wing was a snap.

2nd hardest thing to do was to get him to let go of the buckle so I could snug it up.
He was not happy about the whole thing but I did not give him time to fight it, I took him strait outside for a short walk.

We walked about 4 houses down the street but he was loosing his distraction of being outdoors and focusing more and more on the harness so we came back.
Taking it off was only slightly easier than putting it on.

If Bingo was not so… um … I can’t say easy to handle, maybe forgiving is a better description I would not have got away with it.
I have never been able to use food as a training tool even his most favorite things given to him outside of the cage he will just throw away.
I hope he will let me do this again.

Pretty darn lucky, with our DYH Amazon there would have been screaming and blood everywhere - all mine! Like your Napa, our guy is big and if your taking him down a road he does not want to go, well lets just say things can get real ugly, real fast. Yaaa, you can read the fact that the pain is coming, just got to be smart-enough to back-away.

So, you got outside with Bingo, what gave it away that outside was neat, but the harness had become unwanted? What do you think the likelihood is that Bingo will let you put the harness back on him?

After reading the posts of people having harnesses on their fids, I was kicking the idea around with Amy..I DID get one for The Cockatoo Man from Tom,Willow's Dad,but never did try to get him in it,and I am sure it is too small for Amy...after all,she is a rather "hefty" 'zon

But Amy is an exceptional 'zon,who loves "outside..in the car"..she walks in the grass picking at this and that,always steps up on command,and has NEVER attempted to run away from me.
With her personality I THINK she wouldn't mind the harness. I can pet her back and arms and she doesn't give me any lip...errr..I mean beak but I don't know if I'd want to put her through any stress or discomfort the harness might cause her.

Charlie has always been great outside! riding in the car or going to the lake or roaming around a flea market he almost always just hangs on for the ride. BUT I worry that he may get scared or just decide that the sky is calling and, well, I can't fly! So I got the harness and we have put it on twice now and had no trauma or drama. I don't know if it will keep being ok with Charlie but we will try it for our longer excursions and see how it goes. I have had Charlie get scared at the lake once and he ate my hands up but he didn't fly away (and how besotted I am by this silly bird that blood and boo-boos is preferable)

I got a flight suit on Rose and she freaked out. She was flapping all over the place trying to fly but couldn't. Getting it off was scared. She kept trying to get away and fell off of the bed. She clamped down on my right thumb and I had to use my left hand to take it off. I finally managed to get it off of her even though she was biting me at the time. I'm seriously thinking about throwing it the harness away.

I got an aviator harness for Mr Biggles and got as far as getting his head through the small loop for the head but then he'd take off and he was getting tangled in the harness and I was afraid he would injure himself so I gave up the harness training and now I just take him outside for whiles in his carrier cage ...we might try the harness at a later date when he is more used of being touched and handled we shall see how that goes

This was my #1 fear as well but I thought worst case I could cut it off with a pair of wire cutters.

Short answer is yes I think so. Very first time I tried to put it on him I ended up putting it on upside down. Had it halfway on when I realized the buckle was in the wrong place and had to take it off. After that I was sure I would never get him to try it again.
It will have to be when HE is in the mood I can't force it.

I kinda have the same problem. I have no problems getting the harness on Gracie but she is so fixated on the harness once it is on and chewing the buckle that there seems to be zero enjoyment when she's outside. I've only tried a few times for short durations to see if the newness would wear off and she'd be less fixated. So far.. nope still wants to chew it to bits and kill it. Taking it off is as easy as putting it on and she usually walks away and looks back at it with disgust lol

Gracie also doesn't respond to any treats for training.

Amazon + Harness = Painful Biting

We've kind of given up on the harness. We'll just make sure Monty is clipped, and he'll go in his pack-o-bird if we are going to be taking him into any potentially spooky or dangerous environments.

no time for pictures, I did not even stop to put on shoes LOL.
I just marched strait on out of the house so he would know and relate outside with having the harness on.
I definitely hope to snap a few selfies with him on y sholder.

Loki is having none of it. I almost get the feeling that someone may have tried before because the minute he saw it he was peeved, and he is usually very interested in anything I have.

I tried only once this weekend, he was not having any of it.
it's been very hot here close to 100ºF so I did not try too hard.

2nd outing w/harness

I just got back inside from the 2nd time having the harness on Bingo.
He really enjoyed it this time. Anyone who knows amazons will see that manic gleam in his eye.
He was talking and whistling everything he knows when I was walking around the front yard. Was very windy so we did not stay out long.
Had a difficult time taking it off him, he even drew a little blood but I am not upset about it.
Gave him a favorite cracker when I got him back in the cage.
The harness does not look like it is on properly in the picture. I know it's right side up, maybe it's because I still don't want it on too tight.

Looks like a happy birdie to me! That is how our harness looks when it is on but we could have put it on wrong I concentrate on just kind of getting him used to the sensation of something wrapped around him.
