Attack or Visit?

I was napping on my couch. Kitty was out of his cage (my new bird) in his tree house. I hear him fly across the room and land just short of my couch. I jumped up very proud of him (I didn't know he could do that.). He then started charging my feet with his peak open. I, of course, went running and he followed. After yelling and probably scaring him, he turned around and ran to his cage. Was he visiting me or attacking? I had thought it was a visit since his feathers weren't ruffled, but then he was trying to eat me. I remember some squawking. This just happened...

I told you I'd be back asking more questions :11:

He might have been coming to get you :) With the charging and the open beak.

Well, if Kitty had reached your little piggies, you'd have not had any question as to intent.....For whatever reason, some parrots find human toes irresistible, so now that Kitty has made interests known, possibly full toed slippers might be in your near future.....

You just can't show fear to them, they will sense it in a heartbeat (as do most all animals). Our Zon's aren't really fond of me, they are bonded to the wife, but that doesn't stop me from interacting with them. Or trying to at least.:54: Just today I had them on my chair while the wife was laying on the bed close by and they were biting much harder than usual, it didn't change my mood or even discourage me but I realized they were in one of their "moods". They got told "no" and were put back in their cage because they wouldn't settle down. I get bit alot by them, I expect it and know it's coming, I just happen to be prepared when it does :)

I should not have reacted but it was instinct. Is it true they can break fingers? Does it hurt when they bite, especially when their beak is going to get drimmeled? I also once had a ferret who liked to bite toes, but I don't think that would hurt as much. I do think now that he was trying to visit. He's been bonding, I think...

I'm sorry for all these questions. I'm just learning. Thank you all again for your help and advice. Maybe one day I can give it back to someone.

I'll take a Zon bite ANY day over a Macaw bite! LOL Not to belittle your experience but Macaws are VERY strong beak wise compared to a Zon, I know, I have both. You have to keep in mind it's a learning experience for both of you right now early on. Be smart, consistent and positive, it might take time but persistence WILL pay off! :)

lol yes it does hurt! (but like warfrat said a macaw is much worse). You may come to find you have a higher tolerance for pain in the future lol.

Has he bitten you yet? I still think with a beak so overgrown he would have a hard time getting a good grip to do it.

Well, when he does get you (he may have already...I'm just now reading this), try pushing into the bite instead of jerking away. I know that sounds crazy, but it works and your injury will be lessened. George has gotten me a lot over the years - usually it's not so bad because he doesn't want it to be. Usually with some warning that I ignored. It happens, you learn. He learns.
