Hi guys Picasso has a good diet he eats, bean shoots, capsicum, carrots, corn, brocoli, corriander, green beans and dark leafy greens such as spinach and rocket. I also feed him Vetafarm nutriblend pellets. He has the Forege healthy seed mix ( no sun flower seeds) and crumbles also cuttlebone. He gets millet or a nut when he's a good boy or as a treat. I have to buy some more food soon and I was reading that crumbles was a healthy replacement for seed. He has always been big, not fat. Even when I first went to see the breeder he was bigger than his sibling. He is also a very active boy. I just want him to have the best diet possible. So should I get more crumbles as a replacement for seed and just use seed as a treat as well?. The seed he does have at the moment is also kept to a minimum. What do you guys feed your cockatiels?

A small amount of seed is fine, especially for seedavores like budgies and cockatiels. In the wild, seeds make up a good portion of their natural diet. His current diet sounds great! Really. Me, I would not change anything, as changing diets can sometimes backfire.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, as we sometimes say in Midwest America 🙂. Your bird’s diet sounds good and, most importantly, it sounds like he is doing very well on it. I would second that there is no need to change anything.

Thanks it wasn't hard to get him to like veggies all I did was eat them as well 😅
I did start him on freeze dried at first then just moved to fresh. I'll keep his diet as it is.

Thanks I'm going to keep it the way it is 🙂

is there a list somewhere of safe foods for parrlots? i found and downloaded a list of unsafe foods

I've found lists online that I've screenshot. I have a cockatiel so not sure about parrolets, though I'm sure it would be the same if not similar

ok im trying to get as much info as i can the pet store sold me two different kinds of seeds for ladyhawk....frountly iv only had her a few days....now if i understand correctly the seeds should only be useds as treats.... her main diet should consist of frish fruts and viggies...im collecting everything i can on safe foods for her....and making chop...i have one recipe already....and will have spike get the ingredents asap...then i'll make the chop the message i read about making chop says she makes it and then freezes it....i have more then enough room in our big freezer in the grage to store chop.. ..she may have to stay on the seeds for a few more days though until our checks come in but i have the carrot and kale in the fridge i can use instead of the seed for her food dishes ..... looking for more info on safe food for parrolets ( remembered the o ! lol may still not be spelled right but at least the o is in there lol ) so far i have green bell pepper cores loaded with seeds carrots kale almonds cashew and apple.... will keep looking.... a lof of the info i got off the internet wasnt correct so im trying to do most of my research here.... i think its more reliable......i'll still google parrolets on line but will double check all info here before i do anything! and a big thank you from me and ladyhawk !!! ahh shes on the side of the cage near my chair again and chirpping a bit....right now her backs to me but shes spent a lot of time today looking at me lol

Don't change her diet too quickly. Birds will starve if they don't recognize their new healthier diet as food. Ease into any diet changes.

yes she will have to wait a few days anyway until we get our ss checks right now she has the two diffeent seeds they sold us and kale and carrots....i'll have spike pick up maybe cucumber next time he goes to the store....then i'll put a little seed a couple of peices of kale and carrot in her dish and then a little added cucumber ..... i have to look at whats in the chop recipe i downloaded from here to see what all is in it then i can make some of that up for her as her main diet and use the other viggies and such as well as the mallet as treats... i have some cashews here i was thinking about trying to give her a little peace of to see if she will check it out...iv added a a new wooden spoon to offer her treats with so i dont invaid her safe place (cage) slowly we are getting the proper info and applying it to our care of ladyhawk.....oh yea!!! she is sitting on the side of the cage nextto my chair and she is looking at me....checking me out lol where getting there slowly but surely were getting there lol
