Hello Lovely People, I moved into a rental apartment. The Policy of the place is No dogs, No Cats.. Parrots are allowed as long as its not a loud type.

I am a Budgie owner all my life and I know how hectic everything can get sometimes, I did some reading around and figured that Cockatiels are actually the best choice for me for this very situation.

What do you all think, would you agree with me ?

Thank youuu!!!!!!!

I think the answer is "yes" and "no". Cockatiels don't scream as loudly as many other species, and females in general tend to be quieter, and some males are quieter than others too. I have two males, and one is MUCH louder than the other! It also boils down to what sort of neighbours you get - some don't mind a bit of bird noise and others will complain about the least little thing. 'Tiels also can tend to repeat things over and over and over (and over and over and over, you get the picture) again, which some people can find a bit aggravating. And individual results will vary within these generalizations too!

I guess it really is a matter of perspective. I had tiels many years ago. I LOVED them. They made some noise, but I never saw it as a negative, or particularly loud. My current flock is generally pretty quiet, most of the time, aside from some typical parrot sounds, whistles, sound effects, and an amazon belly laugh. But... My ekkie can get loud when he screams. He wants attention, which screaming will never get him, but he tries... I mean, it's ear piercing head splitting rattle your brain loud.

So, perspective. To me, the loudest most obnoxious unruly tiel would be pleasant by comparison. They're birds, they're allowed to be birds and some like to be loud. Others like to be quiet. Luck of the draw, I suppose. To an apartment neighbor, hard to say. Tiel noises could be considered annoying, or endearing. 🤷

Avoid placing the cage against an interior wall where the sound can travel through to someone else's apartment. A cockatiel is pretty much the least noisy of the larger-than-a-budgie parrots.

They can be loud. Not Amazon loud, but their alarm whistles can be annoying. Frequency wise, they're not as 'loud' as budgies. Overall, they're not bad apartment birds. I had green cheeks and cockatiels and budgies together in a 1-bedroom apartment and no one complained.

Hopefully your neighbors are elderly and hard of hearing.
I have a backup plan as well, I read about something called "Sound Isolation Panels" its basically Adhesive Sponge that isolates any sound that passes through it, just stick it on the wall and the job is done.
