Anyone hear what happend to the Albinos?

Wow! It's a real debate isn't it? Have a mutation and something totally unique, but risk owning a fragile bird...

Alwese is there a name for that mutation? it's lovely!

That's opaline, mistakenly called pied.

Macaw mutations.... : Macaw Connection
This link shows pictures of many mutations.

See you found one of my posts on another forum... lol

So old in fact that I wasn't even aware that the "pied" mutation was in fact opaline, but I questioned it since all these "pieds" looked so similar... and that's when I found out they are opalines!

Haven't been a fan of the actual [medium] pieds I've seen... the [light] pieds don't look so bad, where there's only a few feathers in the tail/wing area that are pied but most of the rest of the bird is unchanged. but I do love the opaline, and the opaline blues...

Here's some photos of a (recessive?) pied B&G

And another mutation that we aren't sure what it is, but it appears to be a spangle...

PS, "red pied" severe... she's never reproduced and her colors have changed since... she's not as red as she used to be... she's quite the anomaly!

Well I'm missing from my post for two days and holy mackeral there is two pages of replies. Many thanks for the links to pictures of the Texas birds and now in Australia! In these recent close up pictures it is amazing how the chest yellow is amplified. Here is yet another interesting mutation I bumped into: P.S. Wendy-how are you doing with the storm coming your way in NJ

Holy cow!!! I would sell everything I own and my soul to have this bird. I've never seen a more beautiful creature in my life (don't tell Con I said that! :p )

Thank You Quetzal for the links to all those pics. I got that mutation picture years ago and can't remember much about it. One I DO know about is the one below from Parrot Jungle in Miami: Thank you MonicaMc for more links. Funny how most of these mutations are B&G birds

We also have a breeder in Australia. They have bred 3 lutinos to date. 1 male & 2 females. Bred from 2 different pairs but the pairs are related to each other. I think the gene must be recessive to be able to produce a lutino from normal parents. The hen would also have to be carrying the gene as well.

I think I know who your talking about, wouldn't happen to be in Victoria would it?
A breeder I know was shown them, but they are very shy and he only got a quick look before they went back into hiding. But he did happen to get a beautiful tail feather they found on the floor! Wonder how much they are worth..?

The hybrids are kind of off topic...

Never seen a hyacinth hybrid before, in person... but I have seen B&G/GW/Scarlet hybrids, in person.
