I brought out all our Christmas stuff yesterday, fluffed out the tree etc... and Kiwi is EXCITED. He loves when all the holiday stuff goes up. We're going to "abandon" him for a few hours to go get a few new decor items, as we've been using the same decorations for a long time and feel it's time to update a little:) Then we'll get to decorate whilst being entertained by the "annual display" of the dancing, tail shaking, happy honking :green:

Anyone else doing their decorating with an amused avian audience?

I've been contemplating it! Probably put a few up tomorrow evening with little one. December next week :O

Gosh no not yet! Not until 20th at the earliest!

The first week of December is our current target for setting up the tree and decorations! At one point, years ago, my parents became snowbirds and we took-up the task of having our Family Christmas, the first weekend of November! That had found us decorating the house as the kids where Trick or Treating at the front door. Years later I found that we had been in a battle for the first home on our street to put-up decoration! We were only meeting the timeline of my parent's heading to Florida!?! Interesting!

YES, we have never been short on direction and supporting entertainment from an Amazon! Julio, has a critical eye for detail and has been seen rearranging or relocating some decorations.

Amazons' Have More Fun!!!

I have the boxes of decorations out. Does that count for anything? I had planned on doing at least the penguin wonderland this weekend, but I've been lazy and hanging out with birds instead.

Penguin wonderland? Pictures PLEASE! That sounds awesome:04: We just put up a tree, mantle, some garlands... the usual. As expected, our green Krampus was very pleased and excited the whole time. He's just so cute, almost like a little kid:D He loves when stuff is going on and is so so curious about it:smile015:

I'm getting the impression things are done a bit different in the UK with when people decorate for Christmas? In the US most people seem to start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving or first weekend of December. Except my mom. She is the only person I know who puts up the tree maybe a week beforehand and takes it down bright and early the 26th:rolleyes: So much effort for a couple days of enjoyment. I always said growing up I was going to put the tree and decorations up long enough to enjoy it, so thats what I do:p

No decorating here! I’m spending the second half of December in Virginia with my stepdad, sister, and her family. Super excited because it’s been a lot of years since we were together on Christmas, and also because that means I don’t have to decorate OR undecorate.

Here where I live in central UK there are some crazies who have already got outside house lights going up and lit up. Most folk seem to wait until December but I'd say the majority wait til kids finish school about 19th December.

Decorating the outside of houses is generally pretty low key although it's increasing as we become more aware of the US traditions and we get the occasional mass light coverage. That seem to start a trend/competition in that street. The kids love it of course. No doubt eventually we will end up giving the USA a run for their money. :)

Yes! It is the same where I am although, they tend to start beginning of December. I think I've seen two(?) houses with decorations outside in my area. Tom wanted the Christmas decorations up just after Halloween LOL.

Oh... I forgot, we have already started a countdown on Thomas' chalkboard, with lots of festive drawings like stars, gingerbread men, Christmas trees :p

I guess because once Thanksgiving is over it's considered "Christmas season" in the US, it's not too odd to see decorated homes in late November. Some people even decorate before Thanksgiving so their families can see the house all decked out when they visit. Early December makes sense if you don't have a real "official" start to the holiday season, but I still don't get only having a week or 2 of decorations being up:eek:.

Never realized super decked out houses wasn't an international thing (in countries where Christmas is widely celebrated). Ever since I was a kid I remember going out at some point to look at the crazy light displays and some neighborhoods (or that one random house) have better displays than others. Not sure I'd ever go crazy with lights, but am appreciative others do! I'm good for a wreath on the door and a planter with a mini tree in it and that's about it. Some people in our condo complex have a bunch of lights in their windows and garlands out on the landing railings! I like seeing all of the sparkle and glitter:)

What are y'all talking about? We just had a spate of nearly 90F days. We're in a summer time warp, Christmas may never come!

Is it ever cold in California (except perhaps up in the mountains)?

There has been a delay in Penguin Wonderland. I apparently failed to pay attention to what I was doing when I packed stuff up last year and failed to removed the batteries from a strand of lights that's crucial for part of the display (and nowhere near an outlet.) The batteries corroded, and then exploded everywhere. I'm waiting on replacements for what was ruined now.
