Hello! These are my first sweet feather babies! They are amazing! Any thoughts on sex or age? My best guess is 4-5 months and a male and female... But I'm inexperienced and the pet store just said the were juvenile. Any thought welcome!:
I think you're pretty close on the age, the purple cere is a boy for sure, the other maybe a female, or a young male who's cere hasn't colored up yet.... are you planning on breeding them later on?
Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Are you going to try to tame them? I started out with budgies.... they are awesome little birds, I bred some once accidentally. I hand fed the babies, kept one and sold the other 3. The one I kept was the sweetest little budgie. He followed me everywhere, he talked and loved being cuddled. Anyway, good luck, and enjoy those beautiful budgies.
Hahaha!!! You guys are hysterical!! Love it!
I am trying to tame them... That's the plan anyway! The one always sound pissed off...and I kind of thought that one hated the other one... But I've seen them grooming each other so the "yeller" must just be that way... Neither one has much of an affinity for me or anyone in the family yet. But I'll keep trying! One day at a time.
The blue looks like a boy to me and the violet a female. If you work with them 1:1 in an enclosed environment, like the bathroom floor, I've found budgies tame down rather quickly, esp. if wings are clipped. I'm probably one of the minority in that I prefer parent raised budgies to hand fed ones, I always found hf babies to be a bit nippy in budgies. Enjoy, they are awesome little birds.
