Hi, I'm new here (but not new to birds). I'm wondering if there are any other sun conure owners/lovers out there to share info and stories with. I have a sun conure, Skittles, who is almost four years old and he is my little diva. :orange:

I would like to hear from other sun owners. Any out there?

Hi, Welcome, I'm also new to the form. I have a Sun conure who will be 2 next week. She is so sweet and loves to sit on my shoulder. She is like a mama hen who keeps everyone preened. When that's all done she likes to fly onto of the cabinets and cew on them. Sounds like your Sun is like my Green Check. You have to love conures.

Suns are so much fun! Sunny likes to go for strolls in the park. With his aviator on, he stands on my shoulder. He likes cuddles, although he has tried to pierce my ears a few times.

Hello! I'm new to birds and sun conures ;) My girl is only 5 months old and still weaning at the moment...she is my "baby bird" right now lol She mimics "yoo hoo" and "laughs" which cracks me up every time she does it! She loves to turn on her back for a belly rub and fall asleep in my jacket :) I'm still working on getting her to accept the aviator harness so we can go for more outings together:D:orange:

I'm a new mom to a 1 month old Sun Conure named Oliver:) I'm looking forward to getting to know what his personality grows into! Welcome to the forum!

Aw, Oliver is adorable. I wish I had pics of Skitty when he was a baby. He's actually sitting on my shoulder right now. He loves to hang out with me.

Skittles like to chew on the cabinets too! If I leave the cabinet door open he will fly onto it and try to chew it. I have to shoo him off cause the wood is treated. But that doesn't stop him from trying! He's VERY determined!

He loves to roll around in my laundry basket (clean laundry, of course, LOL). He LOVES white t-shirts. I don't know why, he just does. I love how he 'presses' himself against my neck. He's so warm! Which is very comforting in this bitter cold!

Sometimes he 'climbs' onto my ears and 'hangs on' them. It isn't a pleasant feeling. He loves watching tv with me too. He'll just curl up on my shoulder or lay on his back with his feet in the air and just watch the tube. He likes to watch horror movies - though I don't know why. LOL

I feed him Harrison's organic pellets. For treats, I give him the organic 'power treats' which he LOVES. I also feed him organic fruits & veggies. He LOVES grapes, apples, broccoli, sweet potatoes and strawberries. I 'on occasion' give him a little bit of pizza crust, but only once in a while.

I LOVE suns. When i see other members' photos and stories they share, i feel happy and sad at the same time, remembering my Georgie girl.

Sorry about Georgie. I had a parakeet that was 11 when he passed, back in 2000.

Yes, Skittles is quite the character. I call him 'Skitty' or 'Skits'. Sometimes 'affectionately' I call him 'you little Skit'.

I love how 'outspoken' they are. It amazes me how well he communicates without using any words. Sometimes, though, he can be a real manipulator. When he REALLY wants something (like a food I am eating) he will make 'kissy' noises and rapidly bob his head or hop. THAT is the hardest thing to say no too.

love my Sun Paisley. named to be a girl, dna proved otherwise! note I have a boy Sun named paisley.
He is so sweet. turning a year on February 3rd! He feathered in with a bit of yellow on his wings already. I'll look for the picture.

love my baby boy. He's my second and I learned a lesson with my first and might be a bit protective mama now. he's happy, very spoiled! though

Can't wait to see pics of little Paisley. What a cute name, btw.

I was gonna name my sun conure 'Bobo' cause he's such a clown and loves to 'hop'. But all my friends said it didn't suit him. So then I thought 'Mango' which most liked. But then someone suggested 'Skittles', and I was like - that's it! He's sweet and colorful. It's so much fun finding a name that suits their personality.

You watch, though, your little sun will soon be the protective one now! Skittles is a male, DNA tested, and he is VERY protective of daddy and VERY opinionated. And I do mean OPINIONATED!

I can just 'humanize' his actions and reactions to things...."hey, put that down". "gimme that, its MINE", "I didnt say you could touch that!" "gimme that, it's MINE", "I want that, NOW"

My friends tell me he is so opinionated cause I spoil him, lol. I don't know what they're talking about. He spoils me with so much love and affection.

A came across a set of 'property laws' online a long while back. I tinkered with them a bit to make them 'Parrot Property Laws'. LOL. I think these are the "7 Major Rules" of conure owning. :D

Lol it's just like having kids:) they say that parrots are just like toddlers. That is a fitting set if rules;)

That is SOOOOO true! Just like toddlers. Especially, Skittles. He certainly keeps me on my toes! He also does some really cute things. If I make little sound effects with my voice he will raise his head feathers and rub his cheek against mine in a slow motion like a snake charmer and make little 'brrr' noises. It's soo sweet!

The only down side of this is I cannot leave him unsupervised outside the cage. I always have to keep an eye one him. He gets into the strangest things. He rolls around in my clean laundry, he 'hides' in my pantry and perhaps his favorite - taking things away from me that I when I am not focusing my complete attention.

To be honest, I kind of like the constant attention he wants. Aside from the supervision part, which is often inconvenient. But feeling 'needed' and 'wanted' is always a good feeling, especially when you live alone.

I love sun's as well! My little girl is 8 months old and is the second sun i have had in my life. I think they are amazing. My only complaint is that Iris seems to have a jewelry fetish and has broken several earrings and trying to steal the diamonds out of my wedding ring lol.
