another sprouting question~

I may be way off track here...and I am hoping someone will tell me if I am. But I was watching my "outdoor flock" eating at the bird feeders I put out and remembered that in the summer the fallen seeds all sprout at the base of my bird feeders. and I do remember watching the wild bunch eat the sprouts. So I am wondering if I could plant a wild seed pot in my house and feed my house flock the same sprouted greens? Any thoughts?

I'm sure you could get the wild seed to sprout, but the oversight on wild bird seed may not be as good as on seed intended for parrots. Remember the awful thing that happend with Scotts bird seed last year.

I would soak and sprout a small seed mixture intended for hookbills. You don't need to put it in a pot if you want to offer the sprouts instead of growing little plants. Just soak a cup of seed overnight in a few cups of water then drain it in a mesh sieve and rinse well. You can leave it in the sieve (strainer) or put it in a shallow container to sprout. Rinse and drain a couple times a day. The goal is to keep it damp but not wet. As soon as you see tiny, white "tails" it is ready to feed. Put whatever you don't serve them in the frig in a covered container. It will continue sprouting. Use within a few days, rinsing before serving.
