I have a pied dna'd female lovebird. I have an opportunity to purchase a male creamino(very pale yellow with white face)

I read you cannot (should not) breed these two together as it will produce frayed feathers.

is this true?

well, I am getting the bird on friday and can't wait!

I've never heard of that.... assuming there's no splits or hidden genes, this pairing is pretty simple... I don't know if she's dominant pied or recessive pied, but all female offspring will be creaminos, so all non-creaminos will be males.
