I'm trying to keep focused. We (thankfully) got a recommendation for a GOOD realtor who seems to hear our concerns, especially about Kiwi. My parents many years ago were all ready to buy this beautiful home and ended up backing out because they found out the HOA could force them to get rid of their birds or move if neighbors found them too loud. Now Kiwi is pretty quiet for a parrot, but he's still a parrot and has his moments and I'll be dammed if anyone is going to have the right to arbitrarily force us to get rid of our bird or sell and move from our own private property. I think after my discussion with the realtor yesterday, she heard me 'loud and clear' on that issue:54: I can probably cope with not being allowed to have purple flowers on the porch, but the security of knowing my bird can't be kicked out is not negotiable, period.
I'm not sure we'll be able to avoid an HOA entirely on our budget and still be able to stay out of a crime riddled area (I'll take the HOA!), but I think we agree to draw the line at not compromising on the no neighbors above or below. We are still open to town-house style condos (as she called them) and town homes (though they are likely way out of the budget). I know relators don't like manufactured because they don't hold value, but we are aware of that fact and willing to make that compromise for some greater privacy. We just have to find one on it's own private land in order for the lender to be able to do a mortgage, which is the only issue. I'm *really* hoping this realtor comes through for us and finds us something reasonable though.
