Actually, it's not hard. Like everyone else, you just get used to it. It actually seems really easy to be honest with you when you've been doing it for a while.

I do agree, it's not hard.

It takes me 2 minutes to clean his night cage and 8 minutes the big one..... no no more calculations.....

:grey:
LOL Your a speed cleaner! For the conure's cage with all the scrubbing it's about 10-15 minutes, but that's including their playtop. I'm not sure if Mishka has a playtop. If he does I guess I'm just slow. :p

I must be a speed cleaner :D Mishka does have a play top we well.
I am very organized tho, get the boiling water ready, cleaning cloth, scrubbing brush, newspaper, broom and mop, ready beforehand.

Sometimes it takes me longer to get Mishka out the cage, than to clean the actual cage. He thinks I want to play, then runs around the bottom, ducking and diving from me.

Haha if my fids were in their cage and I went to take them out, they would be crawling all over me faster than you can think. They can't resist my shirt sleeves. :p Though I'm pretty sure Mishka can't fit into a sleeavo or a pocket. ;)

Steven told me to work it out, and see if I give and spend that much time with him in a month.....

My reply to Steven.........
(his first year)

Who carried him for 9 months?
How many nappies did I change?
How many loads of clothing did I wash?
How many breast feeds?
How many bottles of formula did I make?
How many times did I burp and wind him?

Who trimmed his nails?
Who played and sang him to sleep?
Who taught him to speak?
Who read stories to him?
Who bathed him daily?
Who took him for his 10 routine immunization injections?
Who gave him his medication when ill?
Who held him each time he cried?
Who potty trained him? (took him longer to learn than Mishka) hehe

Want to know how he replied to my answers
"YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE KIDS" I reckon I have done a lot more for him than what I have done for Mishka

You have a vey good point Antoinette! Maybe Steven is just being jealous. :)

Must be hilarious to watch them :D one is enough for me
Thank goodness Mishka can't fit into a sleeve or a pocket, he probably would not want to come out

LOL They are real clowns! I would love to meet Mishka though. :)

You are always welcome to come over and visit

ummm, I'm thinking that trip would take too much $$$ out of the "bird fund" :D

plus I think a couple of very large birds would want to hurt me if they went even 1 day without me :(

Too funny! He has a huge sense of humor, LOL

Gosh.
I spend that much time ith her and do not realize it!
I only so one-two minute mess cleans and changer her tray 3 time a week! ALthough I am always with her the whole day. I agree about the floors. At first you stay all picky and want to clean, and then in a month you just let it go. Now I clean when I walk in and think I live in a zoo, or when guests visit.
Steven sounds hilarious, but I bet he loves Mishka as much as you do!

That sounds like a great response you gave him. And I am sure you do a ton more for him than for little bird (maybe not a ton...)

Ive enjoyed this thread , very interesting and honestly , all the hours I have given my birds , I would double and even triple it if I had to . No amount of time is too much time IMO :)

Antoinette , you brought Steven into this world , you can take him out too , lolol.

Dont forget the time on Parrot related websites researching for his health and happiness, and your sanity. Doesn't it help knowing there are others like you???LOL

No truer words spoken !!!!!!! :D

My world would be not worth living if my human kids were not present. :(

Steven just gets irritated sometimes, when him and Mishka are in the lounge together and I talk. He never knows If I am talking to him or Mishka

Thanks for reminding me, I knew there were many things I did not include.

Never mind the parrot related stuff, websites etc

What about all the reading and research about bringing a child into the world

I also did not realize the amount of time, BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT ;)

Steven adores Mishka, he missed him while in Cape Town. :(

We do, do a lot more for our human kids...
How many trips to the school, sporting events, etc etc

You should try living with Steven, it's a life changing experience.

I once asked him to teach Mishka a word, any word

Want to know what Mishka said to me a few days later....

Mommy is a Wh.re (a lady of the night)

Steven thinks it's the best thing Mishka says (very proud of himself)

AND Steven reminds me Birds do not tell lies hehehe

This was about 2 years ago, and not a day goes by without Mishka saying it. :D

Pm me if you want me to e-mail you the video.... and have a good laugh.

:O Oh my goodness. How old is Steven? He is hilarious!

I consider myself prebroken in for parrot care. I had four children one after another and we're now coming out of the last ones babyhood completely. I have spent almost all my waking hours for years cleaning, cooking, teaching, playing with the children. My house is noisy and we all have learned to go with the flow (even Type A hubby) Adding a bird to the mix sounds almost natural. So yes, they take a lot of time, like children, but they are so darling and clever of course it's worth it. My oldest son has been the most challenging but he is by far the most sensitive and intelligent.

Besides, there a whole lot of more expensize and harmful things to do with your time than nurture a beautiful creature! Animal care is an excellent hobby. Lots of hours, but time well spent!

Steven will be 21 in December, and has been a clown for 20 of them.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, caring for an animal is most rewarding
