A reminder of how quickly we can lose our beloved fids

I am with everyone else after seeing the pictures it broke my heart.....I don't even know what to say as my eyes are teary.....

I can't even look at the pictures, no way. Somehow I keep coming back to this thread, although I was trying so hard not to.

This has to be a pet owner's worst nightmare come true. How horrible and devastating.
Poor bird, poor pet owners. To have to suffer and endure such agony at the doings of one sick #$@a!

I'm so sorry for them and for your community. It makes me embrace my loved ones, feathered and non-feathered even closer.

Does anyone have an update on this story? I think I may have read somewhere that the Canadian law enforcement authorities let the 15 year old who tortured Ozzi go home to his parents pending investigation. I can't find the link now.

What a horrifying story. I take my birds out every single day, front and back porch. After reading this disturbing story it think we'll stick to the back. But there's also something to be said about leaving your fids unattended outside all day long. There's no possible way I would leave them outside all day long without supervision. Even if I have to run in the house for something I literally run.
What a sad, sad story. That kid is a POS.

I signed that petition. Thanks for posting it.

I'm sorry I'm so late in commenting. I have been all over Facebook and I REFUSE to shut up about this disgraceful tragedy. I simply refuse to stop thinking about it or talking about it until something is done.

At first I didn't want to look, because I knew how angry I would get. Then I saw the photos, and I was wrong. I HAD NO IDEA HOW ANGRY I WOULD GET. I am beside myself with rage and frustration at not being able to do anything about it.

I'm sorry if I come off as a small minded maniac, but I really don't care that these degenerates were children. I don't think they deserve mental treatment before they harm a human being. They did this to an animal, and that's enough for me to honestly say that they should be given harsher treatment than they delivered to poor Ozzie.

I hope their names are released to the public. I am fully prepared to haunt them for the rest of their miserable, and hopefully short lives.

You know, there's just outright evil in this world and it needs to be dealt w accordingly. Some of us have no time or interest in rehabilitation or psychological counseling for the low rent punk(s) who did it. What was done to that helpless African Gray should be done precisely to the person or persons who killed him. The gift of life for all of us is but a lottery. Nobody has the right to take or alter it from any being.

I can't get over this for some reason. I am angered by it especially knowing that the 15 year old SOB will probably just get a slap on the wrist. I continue to let everyone I know about this story. If they sign the petition, great. If not, at least it creates an awareness. Ozzi had the intellect of a 3 year old. She could think complex thoughts. She felt happiness and love, and she felt the fear and pain as she was being hit, stabbed, thrown around in her cage . She died terrified, not knowing why she was ripped from a loving home. She didn't deserve to die that way.

^^^This.

I wish that I could look at the pics but I can't look at pics of tortured animals. It triggers my depression and I sink into a despondent state for weeks, sometimes months when I do.

I cannot fathom what this poor parrot went through.

I have no sympathy for the person who did this, child or not, mentally disturbed or not. This cowardly act angers me to the core.

:( I get that. It almost can't have any other effect on normal, feeling people than to trigger us to feel something powerful.

I am often "triggered" to remember how my grandmother was killed, but for me anyhow, it helps to remember, not quite "compassion" for the person who could do this, but some type of remorse because they almost cannot feel. It is like they are diseased, cursed with being alive, yet somehow dead inside. So I feel some level of forgiveness, without any desire to let someone get away with it!! All the rest of us deserve to be protected from such people. But we also deserve, if even for ourselves, to be emotionally free of them, and for me, it is empowering to be capable of a level of forgiveness (again, not permissiveness, which some people think of as forgiveness, for I believe in consequences for our actions!! and I SO wish we had stronger laws protecting animals. We WILL get there in time.) I feel the NEED to see the images, feel them deeply and then try to take action for good even if it is just trying to comfort someone.

This beautiful bird's suffering is over, thankfully, and she is at peace.

OH and I apologize if this is SLIGHTLY off this topic, but I love this idea and would love for this to be pushed forward. (This is with regard to my recent local animal cruelty involving young children.) Relevant in that it could possibly help in future situations, to minimize the Ozzis and the Quattros out there. We should all get behind a curriculum like this.

I am also having a hard time thinking about anything else. I just keep looking at my babies, and thinking how I would feel if it were one of them.

Patti, I am so sorry for the loss of your grandmother and think it is wonderful that you have been able to feel a sort of forgiveness for what ever happened. I am so sorry if posting this thread brought back bad memories for you.

I do not think this is off topic at all...and I am horrified by the ages of the children in this story. I think that adding that to every school's curriculum would be an amazing thing, even if it saved 1 precious animal.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. And so right. Such compassion is a gift.

Oh what a heartbreaking thread… It made me feel horrified about people and kids living around us. I would be not surprised at all if this 15 yo (don't even want to call him human) ends up murdering someone and serving life sentence later in his life. It's especially horrible when they torture and kill helpless creatures who can not even defend themselves. just cannot stop thinking about this… so horrible. It's not about birds - it's about our society!
