I joined a FB page today where a man's CAG was stolen from his home on June 2. This happened here in Alberta.
I guess the owner had his gray outside in her travel cage, and went in the house for a minute, and when he came back out she had been stolen.

I just saw an update and they found her body in the woods, and she had been tortured and killed by whoever took her.

I do not understand why these things happen, and how people can do these things. I do know that I will be even more vigilant about watching my birds, and will never have them outside for even one second without me being there.

My heart is breaking for her and for her owners tonight:(

Oh no that is truly terrible:(For the bird, for the owner and for the community. I cannot even imagine the grief the owner is experiencing right now when they did nothing wrong.

Whats most disturbing about this (to me) isn't that the bird was stolen or subsequently died (which is extremely sad, please don't get me wrong), it's the animal torture. Torturing animals is a good clue this person is a psychopath. This individual could become far more dangerous than stealing pets. Awful awful awful:( I hope they catch this disturbed and without-concious person soon and get them psychologic help before they start kidnapping and torturing people. Sorry that my mind goes there, but it's the truth. Normal people don't torture animals. Poor bird:(

I agree, April, and the pictures were heartbreaking. I truly hope they catch whoever did this, it is a small town so hopefully someone will talk before this person kills another beloved pet (or person).

Oh no, how heartbreaking :( I can only imagine.

Kiwi bird makes a good point. Several studies have been done that abusive people and people with psychopathic tendencies usually have a history with animal abuse before people/children. That's terrifying that the person who did this could still be out there. Wow.

I hope the owner is a part of an understanding community and is receiving plenty of comforting words and well wishes. It's quite a hard thing to think about, especially when it's not his fault.

Wish I could offer more comfort, but thanks for the reminder that things can happen when we least expect it, and things don't always have a happy ending. I'm sure this story will(and has) inspired others to be more vigilant with their fids. What a sad story..

That is unbelievable! How absolutely awful!!

I would think that someone who would steal a bird would do it to keep it as a pet, or try to sell them for money. That's the first thing I think of when I hear of bird theft. The thought never crossed my mind that someone would steal a bird to do something so senseless, let alone so cruel!! :( wow. I cannot even begin to imagine how that feels for the owner. Inconsolable I'm sure.

Ashley, from the FB page it does seem that the owner has a lot of support and had many people helping him look. I am glad he has good friends to help him through this.

I live in a decent neighborhood and before reading this may have run in to answer the phone or something like that...but not now, not ever.

To add insult to injury, I'm sure that most people just think 'oh, just a bird'. If it was a dog, people would be giving tons of sympathy.

Julie, so strange you would mention that...this is part of one of the early posts when she was first taken:

"Ozzi is a family member to many and a child to its owners... she isn't "just a bird" and she needs to come home to her family ASAP."

Oh how depressing!!!:(

That is horrifying!!! That sicko needs to be caught!!

My condolences and prayers go out to Ozzi's family- what a terrible way to lose her :(

Wow, reading that just made me sick to my stomach a bit. :/

I can almost understand a person who steals a beautiful bird they see on impulse. Especially if it's friendly and they want to keep it as a pet. Or even a person who steals it to make money... Not that I condone it or think it's acceptable in any way!! But I can understand it.

But to steal someones pet just to torture and kill it? That's completely beyond comprehension to me. It's sick!!

I really hope they find out who did this to their beloved pet. And they have my condolences..

This is so sad. I can't even imagine what Ozzi's family must be going through right now. It breaks my heart. :(

That's absolutely horrible.....I hope they do catch whomever that did this to the poor bird.....I for one don't even leave my dogs outside without supervision....Several years ago I let the dogs outside but I'm constantly watching them through the back door as I saw neighbor's little girl, about 4 years old or so walking up to my fence with a stick in her hand and I opened the back door and saw her poking the stick at my dogs and I screamed at her to stop and do not poke at my dogs. Cause not long prior to that my best friend's dog was being poked at by a stick by their neighbor's kids. Almost poked his eyes out and they did wound him by his eyes. They had a talk with the parents and not long after that they found their dog dead, most likely poisoned. Who else would of done that? Of course those neighbors but it's hard to prove they've done it. BUT IF that had happened to me, you bet a lawsuit would be in order. My best friend and her bf was quite cautious with their other dogs afterwards as they didn't want to get into too much confrontation with their neighbors. Not me, I can careless as I would go full force. When it comes to my babies I am ruthless. Even to families or friends that comes over, first thing I warn them on is do NOT mess with my animals cause IF you lay your hand on them out the door you go but you deal with me first smacking you on the way out. If they need discipline I will take care of it, but not from anyone but us.

I saw that on FB too. It is utterly sickening! The thought of someone purposely hurting a beloved bird, or any animal, like that, turns my stomach. I cry when I think ehat must have gone through poor Ozzi's mind in his last moments :(

This just makes me sick to my stomach, I really hope they catch the person responsible for such a cruel and senseless act!:(

Many years ago in college I had a study group over to my house. One of the guys smacked the parrot cage of my beloved rescue nape "Karma" who already was afraid and traumatized by people. He was escorted immediately to the door, told he was never welcome to return and that he should count himself lucky that he was leaving without a broken arm!

There is an update posted today. Apparently they know who did this and the RCMP are involved. The boys names were given to the police as well as a description of what they did to her. I can't find the post now but someone had mentioned that the sicko who did this bragged about it on their FB page. Not sure if that was true, but I am sure that all the details will come out once the RCMP finish their investigation.

I find that I am crying while reading all the beautiful tributes to the beautiful Ozzi, and I could hardly sleep last night.

What was done to that poor gray sickens me. That's how they get their kicks?!? My condolences to that poor, grief-stricken family. Some of us have experienced the death of one or more of our fids, and the terrible pain that comes with it. But I can only imagine the horror of learning that my fid died like THAT! Smh.

If it were me, I think I'd want a little time alone with the perpetrator before turning him in.

"Boys' names"?!? They were kids?!?

Wow.

Wow.

My same thoughts- these were kids?! [emoji33][emoji33][emoji33] what the heck?!? It's hard to imagine children being capable of such heinous and gruesome acts- it breaks my heart that young minds can be so ill. :( my heart breaks even more for ozzi though [emoji27]
