I know budgies and most parrots lay their eggs every other day, so when I saw that Daphne laid an egg yesterday evening, I expected her to lay the second tomorrow so I wasn't even going to open the box today. Apparently, my other half let his excitement get the best of him and just sneaked a peak in their box and she laid her second egg today! How rare is it for them to lay 2 days in a row? Should I expect her to continually lay daily or is it likely that her egg production will slow down to every other day? And does anyone know if this is a sign of anything, possibly a large clutch, infertility, etc? She has access to a cuttlebone, mineral block, a good seed mix and veggies. Tonight they got sweet potato, corn and mandarin oranges, so I'm hoping she is getting enough good nutrition that she is healthy enough to lay like this but I just wanted to know how common it is. Our last clutch was a normal, every other day cycle but that was from a different hen. I'm not sure if this hen has ever had a clutch before but I don't believe so. I've tried to find info online but everything just says that they lay an egg every other day like that is the only option.

That's never happened to me before....Were you positive she laid one yesterday? Wait and see tomorrow what she does. It would be interesting to know!!!

Yep, I'm sure she laid one sunday and then again on monday. Sure surprised me! I'm interested to see how she lays the rest of the clutch. I suppose only time will tell.:D

she might have laid one egg on saturday at 11:59 then the other on monday (lol) other than that I dont see how it is possibe or maybe one might not be fertile?

Sometimes first time mothers can be a bit irregular with egg laying ( or even non-first time layers sometimes ).
Marigold once did that ( I wasn't breeding her, she just had a problem with chronic egg laying ).
I wouldn't worry, just make sure she has plenty of extra calcium :)

That's interesting as my chronic egg layers still lays consistently on a time schedule.

I checked sunday morning and the box was empty, then I checked around 7pm or so and there was an egg. I didn't check all day monday(assuming she wouldn't lay again until tuesday) but my other half peaked in(even though I told him not to) monday evening and she had laid another egg. She seems fine and I'm making sure she is getting extra calcium to compensate for the egg production, I just thought it was rather strange. Then after I searched and searched online and couldn't fine any variation in the every other day cycle, I figured I would mention it here just to see how abnormal that is. I'm going to wait until she is finished laying and candle them, I'm interested to see how many she actually lays and how many of them are actually fertile. Hopefully she will have a nice healthy clutch, I have quite a few people that want babies :) One of them is even a magician so some of these guys will be magic budgies :D

Well, she didn't lay one last night but she did lay one tonight so that makes three, so far it's been sunday, monday and now wednesday. Wondering if it will go to every other day now or if it's just going to be completely random.

Egg number four was laid last night :) So it looks like she may be going back to a normal laying cycle now since it's been sunday, monday, wednesday and friday. I haven't candled them yet but so far every time she lays a new one all of them but the newest one has a slight pinkish hue to it so I'm hoping they are all fertile so far :)

I know the box looks like it needs more bedding but everytime I put more in she kicks it all out and I've tried using aspen shavings and carefresh. I think I'm going to wait until she finishes laying and try to add another handful and see if she keeps some of it in there.

They're picky about how their nest is like....I would just let her be....You would be removing the babies 2 weeks after they hatch anyways.... :)

just want to know if the two eggs laid not a day apart were both fertile, my hen laid two like this. just need to know if it's infertile, or if there is something wrong with the chick or anything like that. Thanks!
