My bird is BnG , he is nearly 1 years old , when he was 4 months old, he took a first bath . He really enjoy it. Next time , i still do the same , like the 1st time . But he refused to take a bath. Like he scare of the water , what should i do to provide him water for his hair . It looks dried :(. Help me :d thanks

My big boys prefer taking a shower INSIDE the shower. :) I don't give them much of a choice. I put them on their shower perch, close the door and spray them down until thoroughly wet.

None of my big boys like the spray baths. In the summer they like it outdoor, with a hose set on mist.

Here's some bathing techniques you can try....

  • Try luke-warm water
  • Try cold water
  • Try ice-cold water
  • Try a spray bottle
  • Try a plant mister
  • Try in the sink with the water running or just some water in the bottom
  • Try in the sink with the sprayer
  • Try in the tub with some water in the bottom
  • Try a casserole dish or similar with some water
  • Try the dish with ice
  • Try the dish with foot toys
  • Try the dish with some leafy greens like endive or other types of lettuces that may create a "natural" bowl
  • Try the dish with a vacuum cleaner
  • Try in the shower with you - watching you having a blast getting wet!
  • Try dancing the bird into the shower with the water already going
  • Try spritzing yourself, and have fun doing it! Then spritz the bird
  • Try outside in an empty cage large enough to spread wings during a nice rain shower
  • Try outside in an empty cage using the hose with a mist/shower attachment

Sorry Monica but I had to laugh at your last post. How many variations are there on a birdie bath? :D. Lots it would seem. The thing we do to get our bird to take a bath. It would seem rah you have to get the right combination for the right bathing conditions. I will bath in a bowl but only in you include leafy greens, stand on your left foot and stick your tongue out :09:

On the serious side, Bundii loves to bath when I vacuum or more recently it is just before bed time which always frustrates me as I will not let her go to bed with wet feathers.

I've had people tell me they thought I was crazy for recommending turning on the vacuum and letting it run! :D

But sure enough, they came back, and their bird bathed once the vacuum was turned on! LOL

My birds on the other hand???? They scream and yell and squawk at the vacuum.... no bathing happening here with that thing around! LOL

I actually can't recall ever having a macaw that didn't like bathing.

Mine will only go in the shower if you get in with her, and she doesn't seem to enjoy it that much. She used to get upset every time someone ran the sink, but it only seemed to happen in my apartment – not other people's. At some point, I'm going to have to buy her a shower bar. Right now it's just me fully dressed holding a bird in my arm – probably not the best solution ;-)

My girl hates to shower. I just put the perch in there and use a training stick to get her off my arm and on to the stand. Them I turn on the water and listen to her yell at me...

I know Quaker Parrots don't really compare to Macaws size wise. Lol but my Quakers choose when they want to bathe. If the sink is being cleaned out and their on my fathers shoulders, they will both try to climb down his arms to get to the skin.

:green1:

My Blue and Gold only seems to like to bathe in her little water cup ._.; but, lately she has been pretty good about wading in the bath tub with luke-warm water. It feels good on her feet and is helping her unsheath some of her pin-feathers in her tail.

She still doesn't really splash the way I wish she would! I just try to get her in the water when I can tell she's in the mood. My goodness will she make a MESS when she tries to wash her huge frame by throwing tiny claw-fulls of water from her bowl against her body... LOL.

Most of my birds prefer one or the other, shower or the bottle. The only one that hates both is Malachai the black lory. He acts like I'm about to whack him or something. So he rarely gets a bath unless he looks really ragged then I'm forced to give him one. I just didn't want to deal with his moodiness when it comes to bath time. He screams and flies off, he'll bite too....he's kinda crazy....lol
