I figured to help me get aquainted with everyone and I would ask these questions. How many macaws do you have? hwat are their ages, how long have you had them, and are they male or female and typre of macaw? And who know's maybe it will be fun for everyone. lol

I'll start
Bayshing, 37 yrs old, had 1-2 months, female, harlaquin.
Fawx, around 6 weeks, 6 days, unknown, greenwing.

1 Blue & Gold named Niko(lai). Male, going to be 3 on October 28th. I first met him when he was 6 weeks old and he's been with us since he was 4 months. :D

I have 4 of them. They are...

Jack: male B&G (wild caught - got him in 1981) at least in his 30s

Maynard: male Military (wild caught - got him in 1982) at least in his 30s

Zaffer: male Hyacinth (rescue - got him in 2005) 23 years old

Salsa: male GW (adopted him after his mom passed away - got him in June of 2012) 4 years old

Wow, I would wonder about Bayshing being wild caught because of her age but she does have a closed band. Can't see any numbers on it but that could be due to the age of the band.

Jack has an open band with a Florida quarantine station ID number on it. And Maynard has no band at all; he never did. My suspicion has always been that Maynard may have been smuggled into the states. I suppose I'll never know for sure though.

That has to be so stressfull on wild birds when snatched out of the wild. Poor things. It's great theat you have had them so long.

Yes. That kind of treatment is/was horribly abusive to those poor birds :(

Maynard has been through a lot and has many of the issues that go along with such a difficult past. And to top it off, he had a stroke in February of 2011. He couldn't stand without falling over, much less perch on anything. I took out the grate in his cage and kept him at floor level and installed perches along its floor for him. I had to help him eat because he could no longer hold food with his foot without shaking terribly then falling over. That was so hard for him and I didn't know if he would ever be any different.

Thankfully, it's so fortunate that Maynard has a VERY strong will to live and that he so wanted to do all the parrot things he did before his stroke. He tried and tried, and kept trying to do everything he used to do. And you know what? Amazingly, he was able to re-wire himself during the following year or so. He started perching with less and less instability and shaking, and he started successfully holding food to eat with his foot. As time passed his wobbling diminished to the point of virtual nonexistence. He even started climbing upside down on the top panel of his cage as he used to always do. Now he's almost the same as he was before his stroke. Not exactly as he was, mind you, but very close to it!

I'm so glad that importing birds is illegal here now.

Fargo, male blue and gold, born 28th january 2012, and have had him for 4 weeks and 2 days ;)

and plax that is so sad about Maynard! he is a very strong willed boy! :)

Remington~ male GW macaw, 15 yrs old, we got him two years ago from original owner

Auggie, 7 year old male Greenwing. I've had Auggie since he was 5 weeks old.
Connie (I changed her name after I adopted her , her original name was awful, it started with Con....... so I simply changed it to Connie. She doesn't seem to mind).. She is between 10 and 12 according to the woman I adopted her from and she also claimed she's a female, although she was Connie's 2nd owner.

Yoshimori, male. Hahns. 16 months old, have had since he was 3 months.

Sunny, four, a Catalina. She was two and a half when we got her and we are her fourth home. Don't know her hatch date but she is banded with a 2008 Texas band. She is our best friend now. Never discount a rescue or rehome.

Sorry, I forgot to mention Connie is a Harlequin.

Moses, he is four months old & I have had him for two weeks!

I have three macaws. First is Kayko His is a 30 year old male B&G I had given to me when he was 20, and so he has been with me 10 years and I am his third owner.
Next in age in Doogie he is a Catalina Hybrid male and he is currently 19 years old; he was given to me by my family doctor when he was 4 and I have had him the longest.(named after Doogie Howser MD)
Lastly is my boy Clifford my Scarlet Macaw. He is now 9 years old and I have had him since I was 7 months old (named after Clifford the big red dog)

Nice group of Macaws you have there. But presumably you haven't had Clifford since you were 7 months old ;) That would make you pretty young :D

First Plax that was a big WHOOPS. Clifford was born May 27th at PC Aviaries in Green Cove Springs Florida. He was raised from day 3 by the manager of The Avenues Mall pet store who was out on maternity leave raising her own human baby. Side by side she raised two macaws and Clifford was one of them. He began showing up at the pet store in September 2003 and I viewed him every week for months. When he did not sell for Christmas 2003 and I was in the store January 6th 2004 they made me an offer I couldn't refuse and dropped their price from $2,700 to $1,800 and I bought him. He was approximately 7 months old at that time.
Neleno was born on April 1st and so was my B&G Kayko; 1982 in Athens Georgia

Also Plax, I have to ask you, How do you get a "Rescued Hyacinth" and how can I get on that list???

My acquisition of Zaf was a rescue in that his owner passed away, after which he was placed in boarding at a veterinary clinic where the entire staff was so afraid to handle him that they never did. He was locked in his cage virtually throughout his 1-year stay there. When I learned of this I felt that I had to get him out of the situation. I took a chance in the sense that he was several states away from me and I really didn't know whether he could be handled or would ever be a friendly bird. Well, as it turned out, Zaf is the friendliest, most gentle Macaw I've ever met. He's always very gentle during his one-on-one play sessions with me and when beaking my fingers. He's never bitten me and he's the biggest cuddle bug imaginable. So yes, I consider my acquisition of Zaffer a definite rescue.
