Well Buddy had her play stand, so it was time to build one for Eddie. So here it is in all its glory. Still needs to be dressed up a little bit. Again it is eucalyptus, it took me a while to track down a fallen tree limb that would fit the bill. It is on castors so it can be moved around easily. You can see him checking it out, he is still a little confused about it, but I’m sure he will grow to love it.:)

Thanks all

HAHA I would do it for free;)

Good work Ben! Wont take Eddie long before he's climbing all over it

Yes, he is getting used to it, he got a whole load more interested when I attached his food bowl to it, lol greedy little bird.

Can't let Mishka see this no ways, then she will want to move in with you Ben
Wish I had your creative mind (and hands)

They are not that hard to make, just a few old branches a few small screws and then let your imagination go wild. I didn't make the branches, we can thank mother nature for that;) All I did was stick'em together lol

Hey I just had a thought Ben, maybe I could get you to make Puffin one and we could pick it up when we come to Adelaide at Christmas, my hubby's family live there and we go every year and bring Puffin! He could come and meet Eddy! Oh and I would absolutely want to pay you if you are interested!

Sounds like something that might work. I can look around over the next few weeks/months to see if I can find another good fallen tree limb. I did find another one in the park, but it was sitting under the exit of a storm water drain and we just had some massive rain, so I would hate to think what got washed over it from the road above.

Mine is 800x595mm btw, made to fit in a corner of a room and go through standard doorways. Not sure if that is a good size for you? 595mm is the deepest I can make it, but it can be up to 1200mm long.

Anyway, it is a possibility if I get some time this semester. I would probably only charge for materials (base, castors, screws etc), which is like $20-$30 or something. At least under $50 I would think. Seeing Puffin enjoy it would be payment enough. I would build it, drill all the holes etc and then take it apart. You would have to assemble it at home as I don’t think you will fit it in your car assembled. You could try, LOL. Assembly is easy, especially with two sets of hands, much harder when you do it by yourself like I did:rolleyes:. All you would need is a good drill with a Phillips driver in it (it will be like an IKEA play stand hehe;)). So I’ll have a look around and see if I have some time, we will see. At least if I’m ever out of the job it looks like I have a business to fall back on lol.

Oh wow that punds brilliant! But seriosly I would want to pay for your time too. I would pay a lot to buy an inferior one at a petshop. No pressure though, only if you have time and can find the branches easily, I don't want you stressing about it! But Puffin would really appreciate it if you can do it! Thank you heaps for even considering it!

Soooo... Eddie was learning to enjoy his stand, BUT a few days ago I woke up to discover something had burrowed a little hole in the top of the main branch that supports the stand. There was a little pile of sawdust on the base which initially grabbed my attention. I assume whatever did it was already hiding in the timber, because our house has been checked for white ants and such, and been deemed 'termite free'. So I imediately moved it outside away from the house just incase. The bug is still in there because every now and then I spot a new patch of sawdust where he/they have been munching their way through.

I don't want to waste a perfectly good stand because it has a few unwelcome guests taking up residence, however I don't want to put our timber framed house at risk. I have been using branches from across the road for years and never had any such trouble. I only soak them in boiling water (no bleach) and this has been fine. So my plan is to soak the branches again, but for longer, and even though I am terrified of using the stuff for my birds, I will add a little bleach. I am worried that the bleach will soak into the timber and possibly harm my birds when they chew on it, is this possible with 1/10 ratio? For obvious reasons I can't use pesticides, so any bright ideas on how I could get rid of these little wood munchers? It would be a shame to dispose of such a nice stand.

Eddie has been enjoying his so far, he still prefers my shoulder, but that is slowly changing. I'm sure Puffin would love something like this to, hopefully we can make it happen, see how we go;).

Eddie's play-stand, damn what a thing to happen to it. :12:
I'm sorry I have no suggestions,:( hope you find a solution, you put some much work into making it. Hopefully some members will assist, in getting rid of whatever it is.
Good luck :smile007:

LOL I was replying to another thread and came back here to get the images of the playgyms. Totally forgot to tell you all that well over a month ago, I did manage to exterminate the little buggers from inside the wood. I soaked the branches in a mild bleach water bath for nearly a whole day (the ratio was only like 1/20). Even without the bleach, I'm pretty sure it would have drowned them out. ;)

You know, AB...

Somewhere out there, the folks on woodborerbeetleforums.com or termitelovers.com are really ripping you a new one. :D
