Homemade Shower Perch

Today I discovered that my newly adopted yellow naped amazon likes to shower! I'd seen the shower perches for sale in different places but was worried about getting one that wouldn't be sturdy enough. So I decided to make one instead! I didn't follow any plans, just kinda winged it! I made sure to add enough suction cups to ensure it would hold Oogie's weight (he's a little on the hefty side!)

That looks great! Fantastic job, thanks for the idea.

Looks very well put together, that will last you awhile.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm hoping it will last for a while, but I do expect to change the grip sooner rather than later. I have that grip padding used in kitchen shelves for now but am on the lookout for vet tape or something else. I think this padding will do for now though! BTW three of the suction cups are extra large wreath hangers since I REALLY wanted it to stay on the wall =] I should probably mention too, that this was cheaper than buying one (and it might end up being better quality as well since I made it with a specific bird in mind. No one size fits all here!)

I love it! My Max loves his showers and we usually just put his wooden desk perch on the shower floor and let him bask in water. All of our perches are home-made so I might just "steal" your design if you don't mind. My husband is a whiz with PVC pipe.

PVC is so good for making things. One suggestion I have is to hang it with the perch top most and the suction cups on the lower side, inotherwords upside down from what you have. Reason being is that the weight is distributed better and the bird wont be interested in chewing the suction cups. What do you think??

ive seen this in shops selling for $55 aus dollars a bloody rip off for some pvc glue together i could make 4 for that price

That's fabulous!!! I'm going to make one for Fred...or maybe I should say, I'll ask hubby to make it. I'm terrible at that sort of thing!

My hubby and I just wanted to say Kudos for the idea, we are probably going to build one for out love bug we call a Dusy.

Thanks for the photos so muchers like me can have better equipment for my bird at a little lower price.

Two Big :smile049::smile049:!!

Very nice! I havn't gotten any of these because they're like 20$ and higher.

Does the perch fold in?

do u have the plans of how ya made it what materials were used and how much materials cost and did u get it all at one location? i would like to make one but i dont get how u got the suction cups on there and

I bought a shower perch online and it doesn't even work. It won't grip on tiles. I'm glad to see you can make them!

Do the angles have to be 90 degrees? If it is adjustable I could make one for the car, finally! My shower perch won't work in the car cause the windows slope.

I'm going to have to make one of these, as they are almost $30 in the pet stores!!! Who knew a few feet of PCV pipe could be sold for so much money!

I've got some leftover vet wrap that I'm going to use instead of the tread stuff for cabinets...I wish they made spraypaint sandpaper! That would be awesome.

very nice. i also wonder how you attached the suction cups to the plastic tubing? i have a "happy perch" for Gilbert, but even with a little guy like him (5 oz) it can seem slightly unstable somtimes.

I attached mine with stainless steel screws!

It turned out perfect and it was only like $5 in materials! I can't believe how much they sell these for in pet shops!
