i have a cockatiel named ē“œåGUAZIļ¼ˆchinese for sunflower seedļ¼‰ļ¼Œrecently want to rescue a cockatoo
hi guys!

First of all, I want to THANK YOU for all your supports and advises and kindness. I read every message carefully. Iā€™m so glad to have you guys in my life. And I am so lucky to find this forum. You guys have no idea how parrot forums are in china. There are full of dealing messages and buys and dealers. I can barely find any useful information. ParrotForums.com have clear catalogs of different kind of needs. Parrot species and recipes and even reference books, etc. those posts help me a lot and Iā€™ve learned so much! Iā€™ve sent the website to my friends. I appreciate all your work and thanks again for everything!

Let me tell you something about Blue. about the species, in China, we call this kind of cockatoo: blue eyed cockatoo(Cacatua Ophthalmica). Could you please tell me what the english name for that species? I think Blue is the same species as Siobhanā€™s Rocky in our forum. They are every expensive in china. For a small hand raising little guy will be 15,000-20,000 RMB(which is about 2,200-2,900 dollars). For a feather picking parrot like Blue, the price will be around 5,000-7,000RMB(which is about 730-1,000 dollars). [1 Dollar=6.8371RMB]. And could you please tell me how much in the United States?
I prepared 10,000 RMB for saving his life. but I'm not sure whether the lady would sell blue to me, since blue is getting better. and the manager told me that the lady love blue "so much" that she won't sell blue to anybody. I'm going to talk to the lady this weekend and we all need a happy ending.

For the salad, I found blue is very clever. He wonā€™t even bite any tomatoes or the beans. (the purple one is not onion, itā€™s a kind of cabbage in china named Purple Cabbage ). He is such a gangster and through away everything he doesnā€™t like.

thanks for your advises, Iā€™ll be more careful about the food he have. Today I bring carrots and grapes and chinese cabbage to him.

And ask the manager to unchain him for a while. He seems very happy and come across the room to find me. Put his little head on my palm.

Blue is very sensitive and sometimes frightened when someone touches him. especially metal things. I'm afraid that he has been hurt by someone. he has been released for several times and today is the first time he tries to stand on my legs. I can tell he is slowly getting rid of the shadows. Blue Iā€™m so proud of you!

I'm new in here, me myself have a cockatiel:yellow1: named Guaziē“œåļ¼ˆchinese for sunflower seeds ), and i found that the cockatoos are very different from small parrots. if you have any good tips, or any questions about blue, please tell me.

Awesome! Also what you say about forums in your country, many of the other ones here have the same issue! This forum is heavily patrolled by really great adminā€˜s and moderators!

alsonlupin, so proud of you! Keep advocating for Blue, wherever it leads! We are cheering for you both.

The name is the same in English, he is an Umbrella Cockatoo! Such a handsome boy, and obviously is getting to know and love you, especially as he came to find you!n And what is your cockatiel's name?

My cockatielā€™s name is Guaziē“œåļ¼ˆChinese for sunflower seeds), maybe hard to pronounce in English but sounds very cute in Chinese. And she can say her name Guazi as well. She is very cute and fluffy and naughty at the same time

umbrellas and blue eyed cockatoos are different actually. Umbrellas don't have yellow under their crest and don't have th vibrant blue skin around its eyes.

He is an umbrella cockatoo, same as my Rocky. I do hope the woman will sell him to you. If she loves him so much, why isn't she taking him home with her? I wish I knew what to tell you to say to convince her to let you have him! We'll just pray really hard that she will.

We're so glad you joined and find the forum helpful! Many members enjoy the social interaction, but our main focus is on health and welfare of companion birds.

In your other thread, "MonicaMc" identified Blue as a blue-eyed cockatoo and the likely parentage to create the cross. First one I've seen, and understand why you are smitten! http://www.parrotforums.com/cockatoos/76570-i-want-rescue-blue-2.html#post746322

The attraction seems mutual, indeed many folks allow the bird to "choose them" rather than make a random choice. Hopefully the owner will seriously consider your offer!

Your cockatiel Guazi is absolutely beautiful! Love the pose, and his face looks full of personality!!

Blue eyed cockatoos are not hybrids! They just look like they could be! ;) Sorry, didn't mean to cause any confusion!

Blue eyed cockatoos are also *NOT* umbrella cockatoos. Rocky is an umbrella. Blue is a blue eyed. Owlet is correct!

Blue Eyed Cockatoo - Cacatua ophthalmica
Umbrella Cockatoo - Cockatoo alba

I'll admit, when I first saw pictures of Blue, I was like "Oh! An umbrella!", but then I saw the yellow crest and was like "Wait a min... no... that's not right." Then I saw the blue eyes! Or rather, the blue skin around the eyes. I was pretty much like "Blue eyed? Let me double check that... yup!" You just don't see them that commonly within captivity that it's easy to think they are a hybrid or something else!

Blue eyed cockatoos are *RARE* in the pet trade! I'm not even sure if it's possible to buy them here in the USA... and if you can, you are probably buying a breeder bird(s), not a pet bird... so I'm afraid I don't know how much they would cost...

If one website is correct though, they could very well cost $10,000 or more from a breeder... If 1 USD = 6.82495 CNY, then the price in CNY (or RMB?) is $68,250. (rounding up) I think I like your prices better... lol

We have purple cabbage here, too! :)

Thank you again for helping Blue out! Blue seems like a very special 'too! And Guazi is cute! Do you know for a fact that Guazi is female?

He is a beautiful bird, and it seems you have done so much for him so well done!!!!! Im really hoping this story has a fantastic conclusion for you both. Good luck :)

Aww! How sweet to see him put his head in your hand like that....he trusts you already. You are doing great things for Blue.

I was thinking it was different before I saw the crest.... I've never seen an Umbrella with THAT deep/dark blue around the eyes!

Beautiful coloring, I hope you get to adopt Blue, and I hope you take the time to learn all you can about Cockatoos! Good luck!
