hi i have amazone parrot iam want asking about zupreem because i heard from some people they said zupreem not good for parrots the killed a parrots That's true:green:

I use Zupreem for all my parrots. It has a great reputation. If you're worried and want another option, Harrison's is supposed to be very good.

There was a sketchy batch (supposedly) that killed some birds (supposedly). It isn't the best, but it isn't bad. The type of mix also has a great impact on reputation---some mixes by this brand are better than others.
My "too" eats the fruit blend because she would starve if she didn't, but in an ideal world, I would feed her Harrison's.

Any pellet diet that your bird will eat is better than a seed diet.

My teil loves fruity blend zupreem my amazon eats roudybush.

I have had no issues with Zupreem. My cockatiel eats fruity Zupreem and that is the ONLY pellet I’ve ever been able to get her to eat. My conures eat Zupreem natural, TOPs and Lefaber pellets (they all like different pellets).

My opinion, is Zupreem just as good/bad as all of the other big names, (Harrison’s )! Yep! Soy, bad, wheat, trash, rice, trash! Obviously me and my JoJo are big fans of TOPS!
And quality seeds!

Having said that, my JoJo loves the fruity!

ZuPreem Natural is better than ZuPreem Fruitblend. Many birds prefer the Fruitblend, as it has added flavors and sugar. ZuPreem in general isn’t the best pellet brand, but it isn’t the worst. Harrison’s is a healthier option, and it’s what I mainly feed my birds.

As said, if the only pellet you can get your bird to eat is ZuPreem, then go ahead and feed it. Even ZuPreem Fruitblend is much better than a seed diet. There was a concern with it because supposedly there were birds dying for no apparent reason and those birds had all been fed ZuPreem. Nobody knows if ZuPreem caused these deaths, but most people haven’t had any problems with it. A lot of people feed their birds ZuPreem, so I think it’s safe at this point.

If you’re looking for other pellet brands to consider switching your Amazon onto, I’d definitely try Harrison’s first. If your parrot refuses to eat Harrison’s, then you could try Roudybush, TOPs, Lafebers, or Tropican.

Peanut will only eat the Zupreem fruit blend. And it even took her some time to like that, never mind the healthier pellets. She does eat a wide variety of fresh vegetables, beans, grains and fruits, however, so I feel that she's eating a pretty well balanced diet even though the Zupreem fruit blend isn't the healthiest of all the pellets.

My two parrots both like the ZuPreem Fruit Blend pellets. They also like Higgins InTune Natural fruit flavored pellets. Have never had a problem with either kind in the nine years I've been using them.

I give my birds a combination of Zupreem nut blend and Tropical pellets. Sime get a handful of seed mix thrown in.

My flock enjoyed Zupreem Fruit Blend for many years. Switched them to Harrison's for various reasons, mostly of nutrition. Introduced Zupreem Natural but they would not eat.

I was shocked at the ridiculous amount of sugar in Zupreem.

My macaw (plucker) was on them and they tasted like a cheap kiddies breakfastcereal.
(the ones you do not really want to feed them, but children love their sugarhigh)
She is on different ones now (and lots of other healthy stuff, as wel as a little seedmix for variety) and her feathers are growing in supple instead of brittle.

as for the horrorstories...

I am not sure if it was zupreem (could have been Harrisons for all I know), but there is still a story going round about "a certain unnamed brand/ producer" who made the grainbased part of the pellet out of rejected bread (returned form the factory or even shops - nobody knows for sure) but rejects/returns/recycles got ground up for the basic ingredients without bothering to remove the packaging (too expensive a procedure, it is only animal food right?).
So... all the plastic bags, paper wrappings and the metal endclips ended up in the pellets as well ... NOT very good for parrots -> so after a lot of dead birds all over the world they finally got quality-controll on their arses and (supposedly) stopped doing that.

Is *the* story people (breeders and 'regulars') who just feed greens, great seedmixes etc. like they've done for decades (and have great birds) still use as a reason why pellets are the enemy.

Only heresay, I wasn't there! I just keep finding/hearing it again and again.
(it has been around for at least decade, probably more)

NOTE: An event occurred this Spring in the State of Michigan. It was handled improperly at the location and at the Vet's Client if the story(s) provided are to be believed. The investigation had been taken over by the State of Michigan Health Department and at the Federal level, the USDA. At present, neither have provided a definitive /final report. A preliminary report stated that the product provided did not contain any of the tested chemicals.

Any statement provided by anyone else other than the USDA and/or the State of Michigan has to be view as other than conclusive /non-supported. Zupreem is produced in a USDA monitored and inspected 'Human Grade' facility. That means that a UDSA staff person(s) is on site 24 /7 during operations.

Such handling of returns as stated above is not allowed in a USDA approved facility!

I do not feed Zupreem as it breaks a couple of my personal basic rules regarding Pellets: No Added Coloring, little to no Salt added, little to no Sugar added, which I had in place long before this 'event.'

Im not even sure if Peanut needs the zupreem fruit blend because she eats nutriberries which claim it's a complete diet. She also eats lots of vegetables, chop and a quality seed mix. I just felt that she should be eating some kind of pellet and zupreem is the only one she likes and I had to train her to even like that. Maybe by feeding her the zupreem I'm doing nothing but giving her added sugar that she doesn't even need since she eats the nutriberries.

The 'too and my GCC both eat ZuPreem. Koko ('too) just eats the natural and Emoji eats the natural and fruit. They eat other brands and foods, too - but those are just what it is for the ZuPreem.

I'm sorry, I should have stated that we have an Amazon. Amazon's especially the Big Hot Three and Sugar is a bad combination as Hormonal Events are only more exciting when Sugar is added! :D

It is my understanding that Eclectus have special diet requirements and you really need to be speaking to one of our Eclectus members regarding their diet needs.

As a very general statement, take care when adding Sugar to any Parrot's diet. Since you did not state what species Peanut is, it becomes very difficult to respond one way of another.
