Yesterday afternoon was spent making some new foods for Zilla...:D

Somehow I had forgotten what our last kitchen adventure had been like and let her "help" again. She is like a little feathered tornado! She had a blast and had to taste everything, but sure did make a big mess!

She was allowed while I was chopping, grating, & mixing, then had to go back to her cage while it was cooking, then got come check out the fruits of her labors and sample the finished product!

We made a 15 bean, brown rice, whole grain pasta, grated zucchini, grated yellow squash, grated sweet potato, and mixed veggie dish (in the bowl she is sitting on)

We also made mashed banana, whole wheat flour, corn meal, rolled oats, grated zucchini, grated sweet potato, chopped broccoli mini muffins.

She approves of both and couldn't wait to dive in! I tried to get a pic of her munching, but every time she saw the camera she dropped whatever she was eating!

Her feathers look a bit ratty, lots of grey in them. Is that just from molting or should I be worried???

Woo Hoo! Chef Zilla is a wizard in the kitchen! She looks very proud of her gourmet delights!

I think Zilla's feather condition is probably from the long term bad diet she was on before she came to you. It may take months for all the feathers to molt out and be replaced. Now that she has everything she needs to recover and thrive, I'm sure her feather condition will improve right along with her health.

Thanks for sharing the update and photos, it's so great to see Zilla looking so happy.

She does love being in the kitchen (or anywhere as long as she is with me) Maybe it's the taste testing she likes most? :54:

She is molting a lot right now, seems to be getting worse now that the weather and time change have happened. I'm saving the bigger feathers (the ones she doesn't drop in poo) for a collage with some of the better pics of her. :green:

She gets her shower and blow dry 3 to 4 times a week and is liking it more and more each time. We did that yesterday too, about 5 hours before the pics were taken. :D

Amanda, I know Zilla probably enjoys being the official taste tester, what chef doesn't, but I think it's your company she's really after.

Zilla is beautiful, even while she's molting. My poor quaker is going through a heavy molt that's just going on and on. I raised the humidity to make him more comfortable, but boy is he a little grouch. I wish I could use a blow dryer on any of my birds, but I hate to think what would happen if I tried. My birds get frequent baths and showers but they prefer to drip dry.

Hold up Amanda, I'll send my guys (and gal) over to help Zilla with the 'taste testing'. :D

That looks SO yummy what you've made, and Zilla looks SO very happy to be 'helping' mommy out.

You just wait, once Zilla is done replacing her feathers, you won't recognize her in her new 'attire'. :D

Uh, you may not want to post those photos... A pretty girl like Zilla AND yummy bird food?! We don't live *that* far away and, uh, Kiwi may come over to visit your house:54:

Zilla was on a poor diet with a chronic health issue for many years it sounds like (and probably wasn't bathed often either). It'll take a while before her feathers start reflecting her improved diet and health:)

I just love her expression in the pictures..."Oh, Mom! This is all for ME?!? Ohboyohboyohboy!!!"

I bet her feathers will start looking better and better as her new ones come in. My OWA was on a not-so-good diet when he came to me (mostly a very seed-heavy mix), and in the last six months as he's gradually replaced his feathers, he looks dramatically different. He doesn't look "dusty" anymore, his feathers are much more intense and deep in green color, and he seems to just be getting *more* feathers all over - not necessarily replacing molted ones, but increasing general feather density. Maybe better nutrition helps him grow more feathers overall?

As soon as the vet pronounces her no longer contagious Kiwi is more than welcome to visit! :D

There is plenty of yummy birdie food to go around! That batch alone made 14 snack size zip lock bags that I figure each are about 2 to 3 days worth.

50 mini muffins which I froze 2 in each bag.

And I already have about 14 bags of wild rice & black bean mix in the freezer and about 12 bags of green split pea, yellow split pea, red split lentil & brown rice mix in the freezer.

Lots of fresh veggies & fruits too! She could use another bird or two to help her eat it before it goes bad.

And my Mom says she is spoiled! :54: (as she keeps bringing her stuff every time she visits!)

She sat there and "helped" bag it all too! Well, helped herself to more tastings while I bagged it all for the freezer.
