Zazu got his nails clipped today :)

hay guys I took Zazu to the vet today to get his nails cut because they where so sharp he was getting stuck in my skin LITERALLY! so now that they cut he is having a bit of trouble gripping on things is this just because its new or will it be like this till it grows Back? thanks

People report this all the time, especially if the nails are cut too short. He'll get used to it but it may take a while. Even trimmed, the nails will "file" a bit when he moves about on different surfaces so as long as they are long enough to touch perches, he will be able to grip with them.

As far as sitting on the perch while sleeping with the shorter nails, most birds can "lock" their toes around a smaller perch.

Not to worry, it's normal for them to have a bit less grip after trimming.....(s)he should get used to the new feel in a day or two.....

Pics 1 & 2 give a bird the best grip, clips like pics 3 & 4 can cause some birds either to tighten their grips or lose grips.....

You might try offering some rope perches as long as they are not super fat Zazu should be able to stay on those a little better.
