Hi everyone,
Well, i have got MY first indian ringneck!! he is about 7 months old, if not younger. He isnt tame, but hes just getting used to the place :). He has made a few noises today & he sounds beautiful, he almost said hello, he said "heeeewwwoooooooooooooooooohhh" LOL, i've been saying hello to him to him today about 500000 times!! i just sit there & say hello :p, hes doing great, hes not to afraid of me, if i go next to the cage, he just watches me, but if i put my hand in....he goes psycho! his wings have been clipped, by the previous owners, but its very bad :(, they left the first 3 main feathers & cut every other feather!! so he has 3 feathers, then ones clipped, another, hen ones clipped etc. Should i clean it up & make it equal? any tips? & i have named him SKY! :), he is gorgeous, i hope you enjoy the pics, sorry they arent so good, its 12 am over here!! :p & my cameras not too good, so ill take more pics in the morning & post em!! :)

Hi Kiwi, very hansome boy you have there, I see where you say they told you he was only about 7 months or younger, I'm no expert on IRN's but I do seem to remember years ago when someone gave me a pair that I was told that males do not usually start showing their rings until about one and a half to two years of age, some even as late as three till it fully develops, your little guy from what I can tell in the pics has a pretty well developed ring, I'm sure others will weigh in on that fact, as far as the wings, I would go ahead and start from scratch and do the full clip the way its supposed to be done, that way all the feathers will grow back in at about the same rate and you won't have to worry about him gaining flight with the way its done uneven now......

Congratz on the new member of your family.. :)
He's a looker alright. If he has the first 3 primaries on each wing intact, he'll be able to fly fairly well and prob gain some altitude.(for a while anyway :p) Clipping is a personal choice.
My birds are clipped. Some people do and some don't,and there are valid reasons for either choice.
A clipped bird is more dependant on you.Which may make training easier.

My IRN is clipped, and she can still fly accross the living room no problem.
As for the hand fear......Give it time. I bet in a week, things will be much better.
taboo was just like sky when we brought her home.Within a little over 3 weeks we have her stepping up (when she feels like it :p )and she has even let me scratch her head and neck a couple times.Of coarse she gets lots of treats when she is out with us too.
Have fun and good luck

Welcome Sky, you little cutie
Sounds like a match made in heaven, and having so much fun already.
You are correct in giving Sky time to settle down. Leave the cage door open, sit and talk to him, let him get familiar with you and your voice. Offer him treats, through the bars. Eventually leave treats near the open door, when he feels safe enough, he will venture out, in his own time.
Enjoy him :)
Thanks for the pic's

Hey guys,
Yeh, the ring does makke me think otherwise, hes probably around 1.5 years old? maybe, hes doing good :). i clipped his first 3 feathers, thats it. He has been singing abit, for about 5 seconds every 2 hours :p, ive been speaking to him alot, i had to pick him up with a towel, to trim his feathers, he sometimes (after a few mins of flying around & going crazy) comes & sits on the hand, which the towel is on :), hes doing good guys :D, new pics, enjoy :)
