Sunny - sun conure
Iā€™ve had my sun conure, Sunny, for almost 9 years. I got him when he was 8 months old (hatch date: 07/15/2013.) Whenever he takes a bath, his feathers separate in the front and I can see a strange yellow spot on his chest, under his skin. It looks like a small yellow dot right next to a larger yellow spot. I have no idea what it is, Iā€™ve tried to look it up on Google countless of times but I can never find anything about it. The only thing that I could think it would be is an air sac, but when I look at other parrots who have no chest feathers, they do not have the spot there. I am worried for his health, I have seen the spot a while ago (like, 4 years ago) and forgot to look further into it. I donā€™t think itā€™s harmless because of that reason? But just in case Iā€™ve decided to check with other parrot owners here. I am going to ask the vet about it next time we go.

You can see it in these pictures. Although there is a feather kind of covering it. But it gives a general idea of location, color, size, and even texture.

Thanks for the help.

Oh that's interesting! I have no idea what it could be but hopefully it's just a harmless cyst or deposit in a follicle type of thing.

To me it looks like a fatty cyst . I would have a certified avian vet check it out.

I was wondering if that was what it could be. I heard of that happening to birds on a seed diet. He had been on a seed diet for majority of his life because at the time I didnā€™t know better. Now he eats pellets along with his fresh fruits and veggies. He was addicted to black sunflower seeds and it was hard weening him off. I wish I knew better when I was younger, but the breeder that I had gotten him from told me that pellets were bad for him :/
