Hi everyone.

I decided to peek under Cody's wings today and I saw that the root of some of his red feathers was kind of yellow? Combination of yellow and gray. I heard this was an indication for liver disease? This kind of has me worried

Some details:

Cody is a 10 month old NG eclectus. He has not molted yet. He is on fresh fruit and vegetables diet, I used to give him Zupreem fruitblend pellets for a few months alongside the fresh food ofcourse, but i'm not really giving it anymore.

I've FINALLY been able to get a sort of clear picture of the feather, do you know how hard it is to make a picture if your parrot keeps biting your phone?! Alongside a beautiful pic of him eating a spray of millet :D

I have found these feathers on both wings.

What a beautiful Ekki boy your Cody is!!! :)

At this point I wouldn't worry too much. A vet visit certainly wouldn't hurt, especially if it will put you at ease about his liver functions.

Some Eclectus have 'funky' feathers until they have gone through their first moult/molt. For some it even takes 2 molts to finally don their adult plumage.

Wow, your Cody is a total looker...handsome, handsome, handsome dude. Oliver is two and a half years old and has always had one teeny, tiny yellow spot on the tip of the shoulder of his right wing and nowhere else. The vet says it's a fluke and not to worry. He's been tested and all is fine. I sorta like that little spot to be able to always identify him (just in case he gets lost! )...

Thank you everyone. I believe it's nothing to worry about now. But I did notice something else.

Yesterday when Cody was yawning he had a small white spot inside his beak. Now today I checked again and it increased AND turned yellow :( very worrying. He was silent all day and did not want to eat and had trouble breathing?!. It was quite stringy inside his beak (everytime he opened his mouth there was this bubble) so it might be a crop infection? I have arranged a vet appointment for tomorrow. But I was wondering if anyone has some info on this? Would mainly want to know what the yellow stuff is inside his mouth.

This all happened so fast :(

Sounds like a yeast or bacterial/fungal infection. The vet will give you antibiotics for it. You are going to have to watch out for signs of it returning, it seems that once they get one if the course of antibiotics is too short they get it back. You also really want to clean well any and all items in his cage and or play stand.

Thank you, I have picked the meds up. Hope it's a steady recovery!
