Wasn't sure where to share this. But it's parrot related so....

I am sure others on this forum (especially Conure owners) know the movie "Paulie". I remember as a kid going to see it in the theater and then buying it when it came out on VHS. I LOVED that movie and watched it constantly.

It definitely sparked my interest in Conures and fed my love for parrots in general. Though I am sure many unprepared people ran out after seeing that movie to "buy a bird like Paulie" and then found that the Conure was not what they expected.

Much like Saint Bernards and the movie Beethoven....

But my point is, though that movie has a lot of heart. It also has a lot of heart break! I once heard it called "Lassie Come Home" for bird lovers. And that is SO TRUE.

The final scene gets/wrecks me every single time lol. I ALWAYS shed a tear more than once through out that movie. But the final scene is just beautiful.

Lol I recently watched this movie with my nephews and that's what sparked all this nostalgia ect.

Anyone else remember this movie?

I loved this movie and it got me into conures but then I find out conures aren't for me but I still loved Paulie. :)

Makes me want to watch this movie.

:green1:

I love this movie. So so so so so so much. And yes, I think that is Monk...

I loved that movie and still do. I use to sneak Mihijo, my Noble macaw into the theater to watch it. People use to think Mihijo was a BCC because of that movie. When I got caught bringing Mihijo in I told the staff he was one of the birds that played in the movie and I just wanted him to see his buddies because they now lived out of state. They believed me and let me take him in. It also helped that Mihijo was very charming and was letting them all hold him.

I also taught Mihijo several of the tricks that were performed in that movie using both verbal command and hand signal because a friend who was in the business talked me into registering the little macaw with the local film industry. Back in the 90's our area use to be very active in the film industry. Now they all went to Canada because of unions and it is cheaper to film there. My favorite trick was sticking the debit card into the ATM. Mihijo knew how to do that trick so well he would take it upon himself to snatch any credit/debit card and run with it. It was so funny when he snatched Lupe's out of her hand and ran across the room with it. Lupe didn't understand why he did that as she met Mihijo post the film industry adventures.

Mihijo and I had many adventures and the movie "Paulie" will forever be close to my heart. I will cry every time I watch "Paulie". Too many fond memories for me.

I also feel the same way about "Rio" To this day I cannot watch this movie at all. Lupe took me to see it in the theater as a surprise when it came out and I promised Diego my Illiger's macaw we would watch it when I could buy the DVD. Diego suffered his fatal stroke a month before the movie was released in DVD. I also cried when I saw Rio. It hit too close to home when "Blue" first came to live with the little girl when he was a baby.

I watched it right before i got Gilbert (when i realized it was a movie about a BCC). I remember it, but i thought it was a 'kids movie' and i was an adult when it came out. I think it is adorable!!!

I watched this fairly recently. It is a great movie. I cried at the end.

OH MY GOSH! This is literally my favorite move! I remember cuddling on the couch with Mango in my lap carefully placed under the blankets! I miss his little squeaks when "I would say do you wana watch Paulie?" He loved that move! Thank you for sharing :) I didn't know parakeets were so smart!

I cry too at the end whenever I watch it!

I was pretty sure that a blue crown conure was going to be my first conure. I *LOVE* the color blue! So why not?

I also swore to myself I'd never love a red head (in elementary school).

First conure??? A cherry head! :D Also known as red masked! ;) Due to Noel, my first conure, and all of his problems, I cried both times (at the beginning... before the movie even had a chance to start!) when I watched The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill in theaters.... once in San Francisco, once in Reno with Mark Bittner. (also has a blue crown in it...)

I never even heard of that movie, but one movie that gets me every time - oh boy - is The Yearling - I know not parrot related but ever since I was a kid sthat movie tears me up.

I liked the movie, I haven't seen it in a decade, but I liked it.
What I didn't like was people calling my blue crown a Paulie bird. Even worse were the few people that criticized me for running out and buying a bird just because I saw one like it in the movies when in fact, I had my blue crown conure, Leroy, for 6 years before the movie was made.

I just checked and Paulie is available on Amazon Prime Instant Video. I'll be watching it sometime between now and Monday.
