Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
For the first time ever I put Rascal and 'Nut in a cage on my screened in porch and they are both behaving extremely well. NO MORE SCREAMING NONSTOP!! Usually I go through HELL every single day with 'Nut screaming his head off because he is always insane earlier in the day until late afternoon/evenings.

I'm going to be moving into a condo... do you think it will be OK for me to put them on the patio if my condo has a patio and 'Nut is just singing outside? I'm hoping most people are at work during the day... what do you think?

I can FINALLY have peace and quiet and actually get work done during the day now and make phone calls. It is amazing!

I hope for continued success, Juliet, but if you just paired them together in a new environment he may be temporarily wary and quiet. Time will tell!!

Cannot imagine anybody complaining about cockatiel singing, though neighbors can be strange!

You make good point! LOL... because I also was thinking maybe 'Nut is ONLY behaving because this is a "new" situation for him. Only time will tell indeed. Rascal has always been perfect outside.... it's 'Nut I'm worried about for sure because of his tendency to scream...

For the time being I am in HEAVEN! I have forgotten how NICE it is to not have bird screaming all the time. Singing is awesome... not the screaming! :(

EDIT: Sadly, I can only keep them on the porch until around 1pm because then there is no shade anywhere on the porch anymore.... but by afternoon 'Nut is always better and more chilled :D Hopefully new condo will have more shade...

I HOPE it is a permanent solution for you Juliet!! And with you being in Florida, you can basically keep Rascal and "The 'Nut" outside..(except when there are HURRICAN warnings, of course!)

And as mentioned..it MAY just be temporary also..being a "new" surrounding to "CooCoo'Nut"

Lets keep our fingers crossed!

LOL... that is exactly what I call him "CooCoo'Nut" haha :D

I just found the perfect condo today... it's a 1BR/1BA condo and is tiny but I'll make it work. It has an awesome lake view and is so bright and cheerful and is on 2nd floor and has the perfect balcony. Only problem is that it's under contract! :( Hoping contract falls through so I can get it... darn! If not, I have to wait until next one pops up.... shoot.

Glad you found an ideal condo, hopefully that one or similar will become available soon!

This is sooooooo weird!!!

Coocoo'Nut was VERY well behaved today again :D I'm telling you he is a completely different bird... it's night and day!! He loves being outside... he sings a little here and there with Rascal in cage with him as Rascal just sits and stares at him LOL. I keep them on porch for couple hrs in the morning and then bring them inside.... 'Nut hasn't done his usual screaming at all.

I'm super happy. I HOPE this lasts!

Definitely must make sure the new condo I find has a porch! Sad thing is that normally it's very very very hot/humid in FL and I know that even in the shade I can't bare to be outside. I don't know how safe it is for them to be in that extreme heat/humidity as long as it's in the shade?

Right now there is a cool front running through Florida so I've been having awesome California weather past couple days. The dew point is only 60!! It's so nice. This will only last a couple days and then it'll be scorching hot/humid/muggy SWAMP weather again... darn :(

I have them on the porch again... they have mostly been outside all day since it's very very rare to have nice weather in Florida where it's not horrendously humid/sticky/muggy where you need gills to breath through the thick damp air that just sucks the life out of you and hits you in the face the second you open the front door! ... so I'm taking advantage of the nice cooler/dry weather while it lasts :)

They really seem to enjoy being outside.

Check out the view in the condo I would have LOVED to get but it's under contract for another buyer... darn! The condo has HUGE 8 ft wide sliding glass doors. Below is a picture of the view/porch my tiels would have enjoyed. I would simply roll the bird cage onto porch and roll it back indoors when done :D ... being super careful since porch isn't screened in... don't want any escapees! The fact there is no screen does make me a little nervous

It's day 3 and CooCoo'Nut is till behaving wonderfully well! He is a changed bird... it's insane :D

He LOVES LOVES LOVES it outside! LOL He's singing a LOT more outside than he ever does does inside which means he's happy! Inside he screams his head off... outside he sings his head off. I'm amazed how much he loves it outside :)

I had to bring Rascal inside with me because he wouldn't stop screaming (flock calling) after me. Even though I closed the blinds so they can't see me (tried to pretend like I'm not at home).

...CooCoo'Nut is till outside though singing his heart out haha

Wow, very nice view! I'm surprised there is no screen door, must be an oversight?? Hopefully another one similar will become available.

Not sure how hot + humid is unsafe for a cockatiel. Especially if they have been used to cooler and air conditioned climate. A water mister placed near the cage will help lower the temp considerably, but not help the humidity.

Yeah, summers in Florida are really tough temperature-wise! :(

Yes, it's the severe humidity combined with heat that is the problem. It coats your skin... makes you so sticky and I am DRENCHED in sweat just walking from my car into grocery store! I would love to move back to CA one day....

That condo community I really want to move to doesn't have any balconies screened and they don't allow it :(

... but I plan to make sure both tiels are locked fully secured inside their cage before I roll them out onto the balcony. I would never dare hold one of them in my hand and carry them outside like that.... so I think it'll be fine... they also can't open that cage from inside no matter what they do... but I would still feel more comfortable with a screened in balcony. Ah well... guess you can't have it all... at least not in my price range... darn. ... one day I will... I hope I can make it happen :)

Juliet..maybe 'Nut has a premonition that you are planning on moving?
And he isn't happy about the idea,so he is going to act all sweet and cutsie so you'll give up on that idea lmao :p

If I don't move and downsize and lower my living expenses drastically and invest the profit from selling my house to start to generate stable income then I will literally continue to drown in severe debt and be homeless... no exaggeration :( It is urgent and super crucial I sell house and get my butt into a tiny condo. My job I have now is strictly commission based and it's KILLING me... in severe debt. I am expecting huge commission which would get me out of it... but unfortunately it might not close!! Very stressful! :( I hope it closes!

I will make sure condo has balcony with awesome view for Mr. CooCoo'Nut :D

You have no idea how happy I am that my problem I was having with CooCoo'Nut is no longer an issue!! It betta stay that way! :)

EDIT: Sorry please disregard this post. CooCoo'Nut was screaming his head off for entire hour this morning throwing a tantrum flock calling after me even though I had him outside... he's all good now. Guess he's having an off day... he's been PERFECT for well over entire week now. It's very windy outside and I think that has him more stirred up as he's usually always very happy and behaved outside.
