Would a Parrotlet be a good companion to my GCC?

I'm going off to college earlier than expected and I was thinking about getting a parrotlet to keep my GCC from being lonely most of the day. Does anybody have any experience with this match up? Should I not do this?

Hi there, and welcome to the forums. :)

I would not recommend housing those 2 in the same cage as it could be a hit or miss. If it's a 'miss', it would have a very unhappy ending, unfortunately.

Yes, birds can enjoy other birds company, but that doesn't always mean they get along.

GCCs are also very good single birds as long as you find time to spend with him/her regularly. I have a full life but am up early every day and have Peep out with me for a couple of hours and then in the evenings he's out for a couple of hours. Every day off he is out all day and doted on. He does great. I have thought of getting another bird but not to house with him as he loves his cage/castle.

Good luck!

I think it could work but not in the same cage. You would need to introduce them slowly and supervise them together always. GCC and parrotlet both have huge personalities in general as neither one of them are a passive bird. Good luck on your future fid and college.

It totally depends on the p'let & the GCC and how they react to each other...like has been mentioned, the can both be A type personalities, so they don't need to be out together unsupervised and if you are going to be away at college, the question might be is your caretaker going to be as vigilant to their interaction as you might be?

Another thing to consider is how much time are you going to have to interact with this new p'let before you have to leave for school?

Good luck on your decision.....

In their own cage yes they can keep one another as company. Parrotlets, Lovebirds, Lory, etc. Just listing some that don't get along with others or even ones of their own species such as Black Lory, unless pair bond, they will kill one another if housed together.

Thank you everyone for the kind replies, I guess I'll just see how my GCC does without me for a litte bit and then I'll decide if he needs a buddy. Thanks again! =D
