Have you ever bought a toy that you just new your parrot would adore? Then your parrot actually sees the toy and hates it from the first glimpse. I regret to say I've done that multiple times to each of my six birds. Most of the time they go on to make friends with the toy and some of the new playthings go on to become favorites but those first impressions can be pretty funny.
I usually let them get acquainted with something new outside of their cage before turning the monster loose to stalk them inside their cages with doors closed.

Where did this sisal rope come from? Why did you put it here? I HATE it!!! Put my stand back the way it was! Do it now! Don't make me chew this stuff off myself!
AAAACK! Who is that? Who said he could share my play stand! I hate him! What has he been eating? Parrots? What's that stuff hanging out his mouth?
Dude, get over it! This relationship will never work out! I don't trust you! I don't like you! Go away and never come back!
Poppy entertained us all afternoon yesterday, arguing with her new toy. She could have left the stand any time but no, she stayed, displayed, ranted, flapped her wings, squawked, swore, and hung upside down. Needless to say, the toy is certainly not welcome inside Poppy's room.
