B&G Macaw
New member here. We have been researching for months on a parrot. We finally narrowed our choice to a Blue & Gold Macaw. We just ordered a cage this week, and found 2 potential breeders that we like and feel are trustworthy and responsible after visiting one that ended up giving me bad vibes.

We will meet the new baby macaw this Thursday to see if we are a good match, then taking it home sometime in a couple of weeks after it's weaned.

The whole family is quite excited, as this is our first bird. Research and preparation rules the roost here, but I think it's now time to get better answers to questions here. Cheers!

Congrats and good luck. Lots of useful information and helpful people on here. Welcome to the forum

Welcome, Blue and Gold Macaws are wonderful companions! I'd highly, highly, recommend reading the "sticky" threads and others in the Macaw Forum: Macaws - Parrot Forum - Parrot Owner's Community

A truism is to allow the bird a choice in the decision; folks who are "chosen" by their new companion often have a closer and faster bond.

First big bird, yes. My Grandpa owned a myna bird when i was little, and Ive owned budgies and a cockatiel but i was in my teens. I have wanted a macaw since I was little and have finally felt 100% ready to embrace the challenge.

Nice going then, I hope your macaw is going to be everything you wanted and then some!

(mine drew blood -again- today, so I am contemplating an nice exotic chickensoup made with broth-d'-macaw ;) just kidding of course, I am a lousy cook)
