Any ideas on how to prevent my 2 BHC from nibbling on my woodwork? They are free flighted, and normally don’t bother chewing it if I’m not in the room. But, when I’m around the just seem to want to see how far they can push me. They will usually fly off if I tell them, it’s the tine I’m focussed on one and the other is bring mischievous.

Ha Ha --- They are playing you like a fine fiddle. Caiques are really clever so you have to be more clever. I would offer them a nice soft wood play stand that they can really destroy. Maybe not the whole play stand but a good pat of it. To disuede them from the wood work you might hang cheap pape banners ( like Happy New Year or Happy Birthday ) temporarily. Its tough to get them out of that habit - parrots are smatand they may stop onlyuntil you remove them o they might like chewing on the banners!

I like caiques because of their love of mischief but 2 ? They are ganging up on you ! Good luck.
( Pics of your gang would be nice )

Instead of trying to think of how you can stop them from doing something, why not think instead of what you *DO* want them to do? And how you can work towards that goal of training them to do the other behavior instead?

I hate to tell you, but there's not much you can do if you want to keep them free-flighted. You can try distracting them with treats or other wooden toys (Balsa is easy and fun to destroy). But you can't rid your room of woodwork. Is it crown or shoe moulding? They get fixated on behaviors for a while. What happens if you ignore them? Birdie was fixated on our dining room light fixture, but lost interest once I stopped chasing her out of the dining room. Too late to save the light fixture, I might add. Remember, parrots love drama.

We just rely on eternal vigilance and SHOOOOOOING here on Planet Rickeybird...
