I removed the link in case that's a problem:)
This poor guy has a dog kennel cage he is living in, and it looks filthy around the cage. I just feel so sorry for him.
I emailed to see if he has another cage, but this is his only one. Poor guy, so wish I could bring him home:(
What are Military macaws like compared to the other big macs?

Thanks, Karen. That is one of the macaws that I have never really heard anything about. Are they not as common as some of the others?

That's so sad :( If I ever adopted another bird, I would probably look for a Military. I happen to think they're one of the most beautiful parrots out there, and hear they're kind of like an oversized amazon personality-wise. Tragic that such a beautiful and surely sweet deep-down animal has ended up like this. Is there an agency in Canada you can report animal neglect cases to? I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly consider a large macaw living in a filthy dog crate (presumably without proper food, toys ect...) neglect. When we adopted Kiwi, he was living in a cat crate. It was relatively clean, but still no place for a parrot!

I will have to look into that, because his situation is pretty bad. I saw no toys, but he did have food (looked like seed/pellet mix and water. He just needs so much more:(
He is beautiful, and in good feather though so he must spend time out of that cage. In the pictures he is on top of it.

Kiwi was in a cat crate? How terrible:( Why do people think this is okay?

I see them a lot here, but maybe there's not many in your area? Though I don't think they are as popular as the others.

PS....I'm sure your husband needs a mac <evil grin>

This is the first one I have seen advertised here, but I may have just missed them. He sure is gorgeous. Tomorrow is lottery day, so will keep fingers crossed:)

Hmmm...wonder if the power, gas and water companies would mind waiting for their payments..I am sure if I just explained it to them...

Sadly, he was. The prior owners (who rescued him, BTW) said he "preferred it". They HAD to have known better than that, as they had several other birds, all in very large cages. It was just Kiwi who was off in a corner in a cat crate:mad: I assure you, he does not "prefer" a cat crate and is quite happy in a size-appropriate cage. Keeping birds in dog/cat carriers does seem to be a rather common problem, and I just can't imagine how people figure it's acceptable.

So, about this Military. Betting he would REALLY like a real cage, and a big flock to hang out with:D:green1:

If he actually had a cage, it would be pretty close to normal, but with having to get a cage as well, that makes it really high here. Right now there is a pair of U2's with a cage for $800 on there.

Poor Kiwi, especially to be the only one who lived like that. What must he have thought when he looked at the others? People tell themselves that they prefer it to make themselves feel better, I think.

I am sure the Military will..I mean would love it here...y'all are going to be my undoing..lolol. Wish I could figure out a way.
:D:D:D

Terry. I'm your friend and this is why I am willing to address the elephant in the room.

Go and get the macaw. You know you want to. If you don't, you're condemning him to another day or week or month in that awful cage! Cages can be gotten secondhand for not much $$$ and he won't eat much. You might, over time, rehome him to someone else, but if not, you'll have done what you love: saving a poor, innocent bird from a horrible existence. Also, I do not see 'macaw' listed among the species you keep. For your own personal development and growth, you really need to add a macaw to your burgeoning family.

There. See how easy that was??? Please assure Mr Terry that it won't hurt a bit, once Mr Macaw is safely installed. :D :D :D

PS. I'd get him myself, except the Specific Ocean is in the way!

Trish, you are killing me!lololol
I so totally want him! Did I wake up this morning thinking I need a Military macaw to make my life complete? Nope. Am I going to bed thinking that? Yep.
I will pass along your thoughts to Mr. Terry (He will love that) and see what he says..lolol.
I mean, since it is for my personal development and growth, right?
:):):)
In all seriousness, I so wish I could figure out a way to do it. I have an extra cage that would work for a short time, but that $1800 price tag is hard to get past:(

Maybe you could talk the price down for just the bird, not the cage or anything else?
That's what I did with Yoshi. The guy was asking $500 (Which is already low for an Eclectus, let alone with a cage) and since it was a small cage and he knew nothing about the Eclectus parrot I talked him down to $360.. it's totally possible. :D
If it's meant to be it'll happen. :)
