wing flipping??

It has been pretty warm (over 100 degrees) the past few days. I've been blasting the air because I have geckos and chameleons that can't live in temps over 80. But the air is much dryer and I have been showering Nalani more frequently (almost every day). So it could be related to other causes other than diet. She isn't toe tapping at all, and from your suggestions Nalani is going through most of the options stated above. She's about to molt her large feathers (her first major molt), it's been really dry and hot, I do use dried fruits/veggies in her foraging toys, and she can be a bit stressed with the new gcc addition to the home.

I will hold off on the frozen fruits/veggies and the dried fruits/veggies in her foraging toys and offer her some fresh food the rest of the week and see how she does.

Nalani found her voice!!! Haha, I gave her some fresh apples, corn, peas, broccoli, pear, celery and kale with the volkman mix. Her screaming stopped and now she won't stop singing, talking and clucking like a chicken. It's amazing how much she LOVES beans, grains and legumes. She's still flipping her wings though a little less often (every few minutes). I think the stress of the diet change was most likely the cause seeing how happy she is back on her previous feeding. It's a night and day difference in a matter of hours... I'm seriously amazed

Excellent news. She certainly knows what she likes!

You may never know the cause. But, take a look at the dried stuff you are putting in the foraging toys. I've heard two cases this year where owners said they thought that was the cause of TT or WF. Phoenix Foraging Rolls has great stuff. UnPellet and Green Chunks My gang loves the unpellet. Pricey so I can't buy it very often, but for your two birds it would last a long time.

The dried fruits and veggies were all organic, purchased at health food stores. I would get freeze dried apples, peas, etc. all contained no additive to them. But I can see what you mean about the high nutritional content, I only looked for organic, no sugar products but didn't really read the nutritional levels of the food. The vitamin contents are pretty high, and to be offered that daily, I can see that being an issue. I really like the unpelleted mix too!! Haha I'll be ordering a batch tonight and see how Nalanj likes it. I predict it to be a hit since she's already used to dried fruits and veggies. Thanks for the suggestions.

Monitor the behavior over a couple of days. Wing Flipping is commonly confused with a normal behavior all parrots do to realign their feathers for comfort, whereas a Wing Flipper will do it consistently day in and day out for weeks. The biggest cause for it is known to be dietary, so if you have changed diet recently that could be a big reason.

Another commonly recommend solution to this (if it is not wing flipping) is give her a bath down to the skin when able. It could be her effort to cool off, relieve itches, or align dry feathers. All of which can be easily solved with a quick and happy bathtime.

Thanks maillet for the suggestion. It may not be wing flipping for all I know. I've never experienced or seen a bird wing flip before and all I have to go by is videos and web links. She does take daily showers (she really enjoys it), and even gets showers multiple times a day. Luckily her flipping has lessened once I reintroduced the volkman soak and simmer mix. I personally don't think it was diet related, but more stress related. The weather became extremely hot and dry recently along with the diet change and a new flock member. Since she's showing progress, I won't be taking her into the vet but continue monitoring her.
