Will my dogs and cats be a problem with my cockatiel?

Personally, I think you would be all right even if the cats were purposely in the same room. As long as the cage was tall enough that the cats could not jump on top and the legs were long enough that they couldn't stand up and swat at him through the cage bars. Also, seed catchers would help deter them as it would block most of their vision to the cage when under it.

Many people have cats, dogs, and birds that coexist within the same house with no issues. Like I said, all it takes is some training, supervision, and taking the needed precautions when it comes to placement.
Yeah, I know 2 people that have dogs, cats and birds. The cage that I'm (probably) getting is 57" overall.

I used to have my parakeets' cage hung infront of the window, my cat crawl on the curtains to try to get after them. As long as your supervising them while they're in the same room, it's fine, but I wouldn't leave them alone even with the bird in the cage. 57" cage isn't that high that deters a cat from getting on it...It is the main reason why I spent the money and got the cage I did so I wouldn't have to be afraid of it all the time. Both of my cats were strays that I rescued so there's no doubt in my mind they would go after my small birds, it's their natural instinct, you can't stop that....

By the way, just to let you know. Some animals that aren't supposed to get along with one another happens to get along, it does happen. But not in my household cause I watched them to see what they do with one another so I was determined to do what I know is best to keep everyone safe.

It is really up to you on how you go about doing so as some of us have given you ideas and knowledge on what could or couldn't happen. As we all have different opinions on this matter. You will be this bird's owner so you should decide on how to handle this situation when it comes about.

Good Luck!

Is is really worth taking a chance?
If anything were to happen to your bird, and accidents do happen, how would you then feel?
I agree with MickeyTn losing a bird is heart breaking!!!

Okay, I will search for a taller cage and do everything I can to keep them apart.

You must be worried about all your other animals because you are asking the forum members to give opinions. They have so take heed!

But do you think my bird could be killed in the cage? If I was ever cleaning the cage I wouldn't have the dogs around and if my 'tiel was out I could go in another room with it or I could just put the dogs+cats in the other room. The 2 year old dog I have is part chihuahua but she can still jump very high and easily kill a bird. My big dog is very calm and I think he would learn that he can't get to the bird in the cage and the smaller dog usually does what he does so Im thinking that they will probably be fine. My only worry is the cats.[/QUOTE]

Yes the bird can be killed in the cage even if you don't realize one of the other animals did anything. I was 11 when I got my first bird and got my first dog when I was 15 while the dog was great and ignored the bird for the most part, onday when she was about 4 months old she was SUPER excited to go for her walk which I took for a 2 hour walk everyday starting when she was 3 months old. But as I said she was super excited and while the bird was in a HUGE cage Bianica (RIP) was jumping around and her tail hit the cage I didn't think anything of it but when I got back from the walk I noticed my bird was dead. Sadly after almost 6 years I was forced to take her to the pound because my dad suddenly decided he didnt want me to have a dog anymore and because she was going on 6 and had SEVERE seperation anxiety they put her down that night.

Thats horrible :( What kind of bird was it?

i highly doubt a smack by the tail on the cage has anything to do with it, it might of been a coincidence.
