Hello I have been wondering why Java and Manzanita wood is so desirable for perches and playstands. I have been working on making some simple wood perches lately and it turns out these woods are the most purchased online.

Java, manzanita, grapewood, and bottlebrush tend to hold up best to large beaks, and particularly those birds who specialize in making toothpicks...

Everything else gets turned into "splinterwood" in short order.

Especially with Java, you have the added superficial benefit of it looking great too. Usually in beautifully shaped branches that don't need nuts and bolts. Some of them almost look like artwork. More expensive than others though.

Definitely more durable and hold up to chewing by big beaks!

same is true of dragonwood , very hard and nontoxic.
