WHY does this keep happening to me?!

I haven't read all the replies.
You know I just adopted Rico.
A month ago faydra, the local pet store owner called me and said she found a bird, and blue and gold macaw in need of a home. She knew to call me first. So I jumped through a few hoops and eventually for a hold of the owners. They were gung-ho. Come get him tonight. So in our way there they said let's not move him at night, instead come get him Saturday. Ok, sounds great.
Saturday we get a call from the husband.
Wife is bawling all morning. Can we drop him off tomorrow?
Ok, sounds good.
Sunday. No call. Won't answers calls. Won't answer texts.
Monday I checked Facebook only to find they spent no time at home. They were skidooing all weekend. He was home all alone. All weekend.
We heard nothing for a month.
Then last week they called my fiancé. Apologized, and asked him to come start dismantling everything. Come get him tonight.
We've now had him a week. A week in the clouds with a macaw, for our first large bird.
My point is they were reluctant too. It's hard to make this decision. And it's understandable to question and try to change your own mind.
In the end I hope she will come around.
I agree open adoption can be good. But it can be bad, too. Think how heartbreaking it ACTUALLY would be to see someone you failed with growing, shining, being amazing, in someone else's care.
While I'm ok with then seeing him, I think it would break his old moms heart.
I have changed his cage a little.
But the hardest would be to see how he is in love with all of us.
I hope she comes around. Him being fixed and brought back won't fix him with her.
Is it him that needs to be rehabbed, or her?
