Why does my bird attack my cat?!?

My jenday conure literally attacks my cats. I initially worried about the cats hurting that bird, but they pay ni mind to him (I know things could change in a heart beat)
But if my cat is sleeping or stand on the couch and the bird decids to come to the couch to visit my husband and I.. he will randomly run towards my cat/s with that beak just chomping at the air. He has pulled out hair from 1 cats leg. It he gets ahold of then I know it could injure the cat.

Any idea why he does this
And
What can I do to try correct the behavior

Why? because cats eat birds. Your bird knows that the best defense is a good offense. Smart bird. He's trying to run the cat off. Have you ever seen Mocking Birds diving on a cat ? Crows/Blue Jays attacking hawks and owls?

Sunny will chase the house cats if she decides they don't belong somewhere but for the most part they iust gnore each other. Last summer she became friends with a half grown barn cat who would come lay beside her outside when Sunny was in her patio cage. Sunny would climb down to the bottom of her cage and sit beside her. She also started sharing tidbits with the cat This spring that cat had kittens and when they were old enough she brought them to meet her buddy. Those little kittens grew up sitting with Sunny and feasting on soggy bird pellets and other gourmet fare. [Sunny washes everything before she feeds it to them.] I suppose they wonder where she has gone during the cold weather and i am sure they miss the goodies she threw them..
