My conure has a white bump next to his nostril. I think it's been there for a while but not sure. The conure belonged to my mom but she passed away and the conure has been with us for about a year. I was never a fan of birds but had to take him because no one else would. Needless to say I fell in love and would like to know if I'm being too paranoid by bringing him to the vet to have it checked or is it normal?

Please let me know if anyone has ever seen anything like this. I do realize that the forum is not a replacement for a vet but don't know if this is normal or not.

Thank you!

I have no idea sorry, but to me it doesn't look normal?

Maybe other sun conure owners can help you out. Ive never seen one up close before.
Im sure someone can help you :D

When was the last time you took him to a vet? If he's never been take him in for a check up and ask your avian vets opinion. It definitely isn't normal.

Being a bird owner means being a bit paranoid and noticing the smallest detail. Sherlock Holmes has nothing on parronts

Looks like an abscessed infection. My Hahns had one next to his beak. Go to vet, learn how to give antibiotic injections for 10 days (mine was on Zosyn 2 injections into the chest muscle per day). May have to give anti-inflammatory by mouth as well to reduce swelling.

If it turns out to be an infection you can read my other post on how to give injections.

Cost will prolly be around $100 for single visit including meds.

BTW, you have a beautiful Jenday there. My first parrot was a Jenday.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Jenna "my jenaday" has been to the vet regularly. My mom brought him faithfully. Her greencheek had beak cancer so they both went to the vet all of the time. They were moms kids and she took very good care of them. Unfortunately the greencheek passed on before mom. I am disabled and on a fixed income so a bit worried about all of the costs. I'll reply and let everyone know what the vet says.

Goalerjones I'll probably be back in touch with you regarding the injections.

Talk to the vet, set up payment plans or simply explain your current circumstances to them. They may be able to waive some of the fees or at least make the payments more reasonable.

Update... we went to the vet and she picked it off with a needle. She said it was a cyst. I asked about antibiotics and she said none needed?? She said to bring him back if it comes back and it can be surgically removed. That'll be $67 and have a nice night :) He's every bit worth the money though.

Goalerjones next time I will ask about the payment plan. If it comes back I will definitely let you know.

Thank you so much!!

Great news. It prolly started as an infection, then hardened. Good news for no shot giving.
