Okay so I went to the pet store to get a dog collar and well I saw the cutest caiques!!!! one had a yellowish head and the others had a black head OMG sooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!! They all jumped on my hands and started rubbing their beaks on me and nudging me to scratch them!!! SO ... I was thinking to massively postpone the Macaw.... LOL and go with a caique?:rainbow1:

You could go to several pet shops and be taken with a bird or birds. That is what they count on - impulse buyers. It is especially true with animals pet shops sell. We all do this!!

yeah i know. But i would NEVER just buy a bird from a pet store... that's insane..... lol I just liked the size and the color and how silly they were acting.. and how loving they were..

Hey Cecilia, though being a bit more expensive than many small birds their size, they are well worth it, just be prepared they are a handful, they are very active and they love to get into everything, they don't talk all that well as a general rule, but when you earn their trust their bond to humans can be one of the strongest among all parrots, they do not do well with other birds sometimes not even with others of there own species, so if your thinking of other birds in the future that may be something to consider :)

What's the difference between a Black headed Caique and the white bellied?

White-bellied caiques have orange heads and Black-headed caiques have black heads. As far as I know, there isn't any signiicant difference in personallity though.

okay I just read more on them.. pretty cool. I didn't think there was much of a difference aside from color.. but i have noticed that the white bellied is more expensive than the black headed....

I love my white bellied caique!! She is a clown full of energy! I have 9 parrots and she doesn't really bother any of them except for the Green Cheek Conures. Of course they are all flighted so they can get out of her way! She is best friend with my Pionus. She just loooves to bother the Conures though. Doesn't care about the Greys. I wish I had gotten 2 caiques(which still might) because nobody can play with her properly because she is so rough..... She can be loud at times. She is sooo cute. She is 1 year old. Her picture is my profile picture.:10::10:

Cute bird! Wow you have 9? I have my hands full with 1 parrot.

I have a white bellied caique (Louis), and I think he is awesome. I adopted him, so I didn't do any research about him before I got him, but these are the reasons why I wanted him so much once I heard about him....

1. He is a parrot, but he is one of the smallest breeds of parrot, and what that means is a smaller beak. If a macaw or african bites you, I think they can remove fingers. (I want to be better with bigger birds, but I have a long way to go. I am afraid of animals anyway and so I am proud of myself for having a pet.) My little guy has bit my husband twice, but just took off a little skin. (vet says they really get jealous and try and protecting their mate).

2. They are snuggly. They cuddle your hand. They will lay down in your hands or do tricks. They like to nuzzle your clothes and hair. They are like fun little clowns. Louis is great at bonding time and does a great job in the shower. So cute!

3. You can put them in a big cage and watch them have a lot of fun. If you have a bigger bird, they need bigger cages and even more time out of the cage than inside it. My little guy has a great big cage, but he looks like he is having a ton of fun in there. I don't have to feel bad when I am leaving for a whole day or something like that.

These are just a few of the reasons.... My friend who trained him for the first two years of his life did a great job with him too. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to send a private message. If I can't answer it, I'll ask my friend.

Good luck....
Elizabeth

I adore my two caiques they are funny and loving and so cute but they are also very people orientated and will need lots of attention from you.Mine have a huge cage each each (they do not tolerate someone in their individual spaces) full of lots of different toys, things to bite to tear up, little toys to play with (they lie on their backs and juggle with these toys!!)They love things to swing on and mine adore bells and things they can make plenty of noise with! They also have 'nests' in their cages, hidy homes to sleep in and play in. If you do get a caique make sure you have plenty of time for them.:rainbow1::orange:
