Which leather is parrot safe?

I bought a bag of leather scraps at Michaels, there are several long stringy pieces and a few large (3inch) flat pieces. I was wondering if this is safe to use with the birds? I am reading the CheepParrotToysNTips...Welcome!!! website and they talk about using untreated vegetable tanned leather. So now I'm concerned if I bought the wrong kind. Can I get some advice on this issue?

Did Michael's tell you if it is "untreated vegetable tanned leather"?
I guess if they didn't tell you that it is, I would assume for the safety of your parrot(s) that it is not. My local parrot supply store sells leather that is safe for parrots: Here are 2 links to it below:
