Where does the ring appear first?

Hi everyone

I have a really stupid question but it bugs me so please forgive my ignorance.

Is there a certain part of a IRN male's head that the ring becomes visible first or does it have more to do with which feathers he's happening to molt first?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a surgically sexed male that turns 1 next month and this morning when he bent his head down I noticed a blueish/blackish sheen on the back of his neck. On the front part of the neck you can see a ring of fainter feathers that you would expect and nothing is out of the ordinary there.

He is a cinnamon gray pallidino.

Could it be the beginning of a ring, an optical illusion caused by light playing with his feathers or simple wishful thinking on my part?

Considering his age I doubt it's his ring but I've read of younger birds getting their rings.

Kind regards,

Wessel

Edit: I asked someone else with sharper eyes (and a few decades younger than my eyes) if he saw the same thing and he did so it wasn't an over active imagination.
