Where can I find seed catchers?

Where can I find those metal seed catchers? I’m talking about the ones that make the cage have a bigger footprint. My birds like to sit on the edges of their cages when they eat. They also like to hang off the edges when they poop.

The metal seed guards usually come with the cage and I don’t think you can purchase them separately. The dimensions are different for each cage, so it would be difficult to find the right seed catcher to fit your cage. Even if you could find a seed guard sold separately that has the right dimensions, if your cage is not meant to have seed guards it would be impossible to install them.

Might not be metal... but you might want to look into "Universal Seed Catchers". Hard to say if there are any stores around that still sell them...

They also make bowls on an extended arm do that the bowl is actually eight inches inside if cage it helps! Will try and get a pic of mine.

I just posted the first thing I found on Google as a start. You could also try searching for "seed skirt".
Mine came with my cage but the description etc always called it a seed skirt.

You can always contact the shop/manufacturer -- some makes/models/brands will sell spare parts seperately.


I always dismantle the (metal, overhanging) seed catchers (larger cages) because they always catch me!
it's far easier to clean the floor etc than those flapping-about-gutters and I can do without the scrapes and bruises, thank you

you could also make a couple yourself if your DIY savvy, if not I'm sure a metal shop will be able to make some for you if you get the dimensions and a quick sketch of the guards. Though being honest I find them kinda troublesome, seed and poop always get stuck in the corners requiring the guards to be dismantled to clean properly and then half the time they don't actually "catch" the seed husks

Okay, let's solve the food concern. There's something called a SEED CORRAL. Their new site wouldn't give me the link address, so you find it at walmart.com for US$17.99. When you search, put BIRD SEED CORRAL. It'll be listed. The SAME thing is sold on Drs Foster and Smith site for over US$30.

It attaches over any horizontal bars. Of water is a concern, you need a bird butler type.

Put the feeder trays as low as possible. Surround them at the cage with an elastic fabric/mesh seed catcher/skirt that usually costs between US$10 and US$20 online.

Next, the poop issue must be dealt with. Buy an office chair/carpet cover of plastic. Often, IT and computer users have them to help chairs roll better. I don't know the name. These aresold either at office supply stores or occasionally at thrift stores. Place this under you cage.

If your bird isn't flinging food, you probably don't need the seed corral and skirt just the floor protector.

I have some birds that are flingers and these have helped! My birdroom is nearer and cleaner. As well, it actually saves money on wasted food. Allow me to suggest potty training.
