Good evening All :)
I have the opportunity to adopt a baby amazon from its owner ( cant keep the bird due to not having sufficient time too devote to raising it), I would very much like to adopt it. Its around kiwi's age and I can bring it home tomorrow. Are there any concerns I should be aware of? I have a separate cage for it. Also can they both play together supervised? Thank you very much. Hers to amazon number 2 :)

HAHAHAHAH! Amazons are addicting, aren't they? :) What type of Amazon is it?

Make sure the new one is healthy before introducing him/her to your baby. Quarantine is best for 4 weeks, plus a checkup by an avian vet.

Best of luck!! Would love to see pictures once he's home with you.

True quarantine is very wise....(preferably in different building).

Hello Wendy :) Yes they are indeed quite addictive :) My little kiwi has me wrapped around her little toes :) I will take the new one to the vet tomorrow for a check up and keep them in separate cages. I ve been told she may not be as bonded as kiwi is and may bite because its a new environment and she will be new to me, I hope shes calm and affectionate as i do fancy a cuddle and having kiwi on my shoulder and would like to play with them both. Can I feed them together from separate bowls or should i do feeding and playing separately? Ideally its a companion for kiwi when I m away at school during the day, and once I return we have out fun time outdoors ( weather permitting) or inside. I havent much experience with two parrots but I just felt the need to adopt this little one and I hope I can do right by it. Pics the moment we arrive home. How are you little ones Wendy?

Echo- thank you very muc. I will keep them in separate cages with separate toys and feeding utensils, I live at home with my family and unfortunately cannot quarantine the bird in a separate building.

Sounds like you've made up your mind. hope you don't bite off more than you can chew. I'll be glad to help ,have a feeling you might need it. The good part is both birds are so young. i assume neither of them has weaned yet?

Hello Henpecked :)
How are you? I do hope I havent bitten off more than I can chew :( Its just I felt sorry for the amazon being up for adoption and want to give it a good home also I wanted a companion for kiwi as she grows up. The new bird is a week or two older than kiwi but isnt weaned so will be hand feeding them both. Thank you very much for your help, it means the world to kiwi and I :)

If you ever wanted to have two amazons that get along , you've got a golden opportunity. Although it doesn't sound like the 2nd one has had much human interaction.Maybe handfeeding can help turn that around. What favor is the 2nd one?

Yes ideally I d like for them both to bond. I think the second is a yellow headed amazon and hasnt had as much interaction or as varied a diet as kiwi but I m hoping to change that by adopting it. I love animals and I try my best to take good care of them. I just hope I m not biting off more than I can chew, I really want them to be happy and healthy.

If unable to provide a different room then just take him straight to the vet and have him checked, then that'll give you a peace of mind! :)
