What'st he best kind of wood to use for bird perches/play gyms?

Hey everyone, i'm thinking of maybe putting a branch from our woods and making it into a perch into my future green cheeks cage and i'm wondering what kind of wood is safe and what's not. Also, does boiling the wood to make it plyable really work?

see if u have a plant that has small flowers and the flowers emit a sweet smell at night, i find that its safe for my feathery buddies, they like to chew the fresh bark and leave it all smooth

Not sure about boiling, but steaming definitely does (spose its a very similar technique). I have only ever seen it done on sheet material though (ply, Balsa, etc). I see no reason why it wouldn't work on thicker timber, but you would need one cracker of a steam chamber, it would take a very long time and not be all that pliable still. Better off just searching for branches that are shaped to suit what your after. Boiling will help clean the branch though, if you have a big enough pot to do it in.

GSE huh? What does that stand for? I'll have to check it out. Will the branch stay in the possission it's in after I bend it? or will it eventually bend back to it's normal state. Thanks.
