Im looking to build a perch for when i get my new amazon baby and i need to know whats the best non toxic wood to use to build it help please!!!

My favorite natural wood perches are grapevine and cholla cactus, but really it comes down to what you can get your hands on. If you can get ahold of one of those two woods I say use one of those.

I will post some pictures of the perch when finished but it will be without the parrot on it as i am not getting her till october as she is only a few days old but im so excited that i am getting her

Here is a link to a list of safe woods for birds.

Manzanita is great, cholla is cool, pecan is a very hard wood as is manzanita.

Grape vine is excellent also, wish I had a source for it in Tucson.

Safe and Dangerous Woods

A great perch material in your area is Pistachio, i get the tops and branches from peoples yards and not the stuff from the orchards. Pistachio has great shapes, lots of short stocky branches and last a long time.
