I got a new parrot today however i dont know what type he is.
he's all green and i am told he's called "Nipalian" here in bahgdad. at least thats the nickname they use for him

the picture attached should be helpful so i can at least know what forum to start talking about how tame him and how to take care of him.

thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Identification is not my strength - there are a few others here for whom it is, they may do better - but my first thought is that it looks a bit like a quaker parakeet. Do you have pictures from any other angles. Quakers usually have a lighter/white chest area and from this angle it doesn't look like he does.

Hopefully someone will be able to ID him better, but as far as taming and caring for him there really are few if any differences for the various species of small parrots.

Thanks for the reply

No. he's fully green with a hint of a dark grey / black ring around his neck. i am told this identifies him to be a male...

the vet who saw him at the time of purchase says he wasnt sure and thinks it maybe a female.

i will try to take pics from another angle. its not easy since he doesnt like to sit still and is sort of afraid of hands

but as far as taming and caring for him there really are few if any differences for the various species of small parrots.
Meaning?

apparently through wild google searches i think my bird is a indian redneck parrot according to this site Indian Ringneck Parrots: Species Information Page and Photos
also it says
Males: Have a striking black ring with pink and pale blue outer rings.
Females: Also have rings but they are generally very pale and hard to see.

now with that said i think mine is a female cause the ring is very hard to see. and theres no pink around the ring...

anyone?

Yes, he looks like an Indian Ringneck to me.

How old is he? Males dont get their 'ring' until about 2 years old. He could be just getting it. If he shows any ring though, its probbaly a male.

Well I was right about one thing: I'm no good at ID'ing parrots!

Hey it's ok. I only know a lot of them because i used to go on a tun of forums where there were a lot of people with all kinds of birds. Also i used to spend hours researching parrots and stuff. I dont have the time for much of it anymore though. I've kind of fallen out of the 'bird lingo' lately. I still have my babies though.

As Meghan has stated you have an IRN ... they do, very much, look like quakers (little hats and black clothes with no adornment :p), but quakers are squater and smaller ...
