My neighbor got this conure yesterday. She was told he is a gold capped conure. I've looked at pictures of them and I don't think that is what he is. I think maybe a jenday? He is 1 1/2 years old.

I'm pretty sure it's a Jenday.

Gold caps are more green but Jendays look like suns but with green wings

I own a gold cap, his name is Ninja. their head is a reddish/gold colour that extends just behind the eyes.
the rest of the body is green, until just below their chest, where they have a vest in the same colour. their tails are a gorgeous dark blue/gold colour.
they are on the larger size of the conure family, and beyond LOUD!
I'm pretty sure that is a Jenday, and very gorgeous!!!

I agree, hybrid conure.

Looks to be Sunday. Has the colors of a jenday but the face of a sun. Jendays should have very yellow faces, not orange faces. Gold cap hybrids are generally greener looking birds, and it does appear there is some green on the stomach? Hard to say for sure.

Yeah, chest is has green mixed in with the orange and red. I contacted the breeder for her this morning and the breeder swears it is a gold capped. Just said that they vary in the amount of orange. I still am thinking sunday or jenday though. My friend doesn't really care which he is but I was curious.

he s gorgeous and as long as your neighbor loves him it doesnt really matter what species right? But I can see he is definitely NOT a gold capped..

My guess is probably sunday too....he is SO CUTE!!! I thought 'baby sun' when i first saw the pic because the face is so much a sun's face but with the green wings, i thought it was a juvenile. Sunday makes more sense.

Can you ask the breeder for a photo of the parents then?

He looks to be a "sunday" (jenday and sun conure hybrid) or possibly a "suncap" (gold cap x sun conure hybrid). Very definately a sun conure face, but too much red in the belly suggests to me it is possibly the suncap.

Found some images for suncaps... they do look similar!

Here is one called Skittles

Here's a website that has a photo of a high colored gold capped conure that nearly looks like a jenday.

When Suns, Jendays and Gold Caps are hybrized together (Sunday x Gold Cap), you get what is called a "Hawaii Sunrise Conure"....

Thanks everyone. I think he does look like a suncap more than a sunday. I emailed the breeder for my neighbor and they have not answered me back again beyond saying that he is a gold capp.
My friend doesn't care either way. He's very sweet now that he is settling in. Still a little skittish but is letting her give him scritches every now and then.
